Matthews will just come here and be slow and boring and we'll all be like "why can't this guy pass?"

It's the team.
OK, thought experiment. Take a fast team, say, any other team. Swap EVERYTHING with them: players, coaches, trainers, medical staff, interns, scouts, you name it. We still slow and boring? I say yes. And I will tell you why: scaffolding.

Remember after last deadline when they actually improved after the deadline? This is not like that.

I really don’t care until the playoffs. I’m not happy right now, make no mistake. I’m just not really in the knee jerk short term reaction camp anymore. We know this team is bipolar and that literally anything can be a catalyst for a 10 game unbeatable streak or a 10 game total shit streak. We could literally go like .300 from now until the end of the regular season and if we won our first 2 playoff games I wouldn’t care.

Hot take: all Allaire did was open the packaging on a Hall of Fame goaltender.

Who else have we produced? We struggled to find backups Hank's entire career.
Raanta and Talbot were pretty good for us, despite not having been anything special before, no?

Talbot and Raanta were legit very good for us. Even Pavelec played decent over here. Biron was good too, though he was very established.

I'm interested to hear more about scaffolding.

But I agree.

Did we forget he said the hip issue has been around for years and was never, and still isn't, a big deal? It's an excuse latched on to by people who want to say "I told you so" that they shouldn't have traded for him.
Guilty

Kane is already the litmus test and he looks like Jed Ortmeyer.

Say what you will about Kane, he doesn't play like this.
Gotta be malnutrition. Can they have some Chicago deep dish delivered to NY?

Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a LBI (rickets).

They're so slow and boring.

Throwing grit at it didn't work.

Throwing skill at it isn't working either.

Kane is one of the most entertaining players ever and has all-time ability to play with speed. He got sucked right into the hole.

Something internal is broken whether you think it's the coach or otherwise.
Something internal is their insistence on having a certain type of defenseman year after year not understanding how the game has evolved. Unless you are the Hurricanes you need to have a mobile defense to create offense consistently.
