Man, the Muzzin talk is hyperbole at its finest. The worst dman since Randy Jones? I respectively disagree. Muzzin is prone to making bone headed plays with the puck but I think he is more sound positionally and defensively than Martinez. I think Martinez is a better skater and maybe a better passer. Other than that, I think Muzzin has the edge. Martinez may not make as many boneheaded plays with the puck but he makes up for that getting burnt in one on one situations. BTW.. I'm part of team Martinez and wanted him in the line up at the beginning of the season but I think there is a reason why Muzzin is getting the ice time over him.

I made the analogy before and I'll say it again. Pointing out flaws in the Kings defensive game is like pointing out flaws on the body of a super model. You guys do realize the Kings are still the #1 defenisve team in the league right? You guys harp on Regher, Mitchell and Muzzin. Up until a few weeks ago, Voynov seemed to be getting a pass. I thought that was quite comical. I'd even argue that Muzzin has been a better player than Voynov this year. i don't think that is even debatable in the past 20 games.

Now if you want to criticize the d corps for their inability to make a good lead pass, get shots on net etc., I'm all eyes (ears). But that has nothing to do with playing defense.

I agree Slava has been terrible all year, 45+ games now without a goal.

Could you imagine the amount of hate Muzzin would garner if he was playing like Slava, being paid 4 million and gone 45+ games without a goal ?

Ah the voice of reason is soothing in my ears.

Excellent post.

Someone's obsessed with hatin on Slava.

If anyone should be criticized on the d corps, it should be Voynov. Why people have conveniently ignored this up until a week or two before the olympic break is very symbolic of what goes on here. People want to seem to give him the benefit of the doubt when he has played more NHL games than Muzzin and is only one year younger. He's played roughly a third more games than Muzzin and has twice the points as Muzzin. Both of these players are young enough to excuse their deficiencies. At least, to me they are. One is drawing a disproportionate amount of negative attention from the fans on here. I think people are letting his playoff performance (or numbers) from last year cloud their judgement of his performance this season.

My beef with Voynov has nothing to do with his bad defensive play. It has more to do with what used to be his strengths. He used to get the puck on net quite regularly. He used to make great breakout passes. He used to skate the puck up the ice. All of that has disappeared and quite frankly, all of that is what ails the Kings this season. Not his bad board play and defensive reads (which are a problem but as I said before, hard to argue with the defensive play of the best defensive team in the league).

Muzzin has been playing on the top pairing for a good portion of the season and is making a fraction of what Voynov gets and is playing better than Voynov. Why are we complaining about defense? And why are we complaining about Muzzin out of all things defense? its a friggin joke...

Oh yeah, and I do watch the games. i also stayed at a holiday inn express last night.

Maybe you haven't read much of late but damacles has posted nothing but hate on Slava. Seems like every posts has something to do with Slava. Much like Herby's tyrant over Stoll, damacles hate for Slava is reaching that level.

As for Muzzin, I just think people enjoy hating on him. He's just an easy guy to pick on. I know I've been critical of him, but I actually think he's been better of late and have been one of our most physical player all season long. The downside to Muzzin is that his inconsistent and doesn't belong on the 1st pairing, which isn't his fault.

Well my point is if there is a defenseman to hate on this season, Slava is it. But yeah, i think complaining about defensive play with this team is a waste of breath (errr... key strokes). The team could certainly use some of Slava's offensive skills coming to life.

If there's one thing we're not short of around here, especially lately, it's criticism. It's a little silly to try to measure who is 'hated on more'. Both defensemen have their shortcomings, both also have strengths, and I don't think there's been a unfair focus on either, really. Voynov has been getting slaughtered in many threads just as Muzzin has.

Let's move on, hm?
