Will need to go something like 15-7 after the Olympic break to do it. It's doable, but it feels like 05-06 all over again. The Canucks will probably miss the playoffs.

One more thing about Torts... this team doesn't want to play for him... can anyone remember this many injuries to key players? IF they trusted their coach, if they believed he had their back and believed in the system they'd FIGHT for ice-time, FIGHT through these injuries. There's a reason nobody is in a rush to get back... they *** HATE playing for and being embarrassed by this guy.

UHHHH what? didnt the twins advocate for john?.

I know this is stupid (but it made me laugh)...

Patterson was ranting about how Gillis didn't trade Schneider for a player to help scoring now...

Noticed that Dallas just passed the Canucks on a GMG by Nichushkin lol.

I still would have taken Horvat as the long term prospect but I did laugh at that.

With the Stars' win tonight they leap frog the Canucks and push them down to 10th in the West. Oh, and the Capitals also won so they and the Stars both pass the Canucks in the overall standings, leaving them 21st in the league.

Unless this team experiences a miracle turnaround after the Olympics, the tank is actually on. No joke.

I'm now fully on board for a tank.

Do nothing at the trade deadline. Don't try to fix any of the team's problems until we're safely in 12th spot in the West. (Or sell, if anyone still wants any of our non-NTC players)

Another top 10 draft pick would go a long way.

Yeah I would take Horvat still, really like him. I don't think Horvat will be as good offensively as Nichushkin but with his strong defense play and ability to raise his game is going to make him a very importent part of our future but we still need a scoring top line center moving forward... McDavid Horvat should be a very fine top 6 centers ;)

Ya problem is the Nucks would need to win the lottery or be worse than the Sabres for that to happen.

I can see the Canucks being bad next year, but the Sabres are some kind of awful.

Saving grace for their season is the stupid Islands gave them a top 5 pick for UFA Vanek.

Let's be honest we all know this team isn't as bad as they're playing right now... But when healthy is this team good enough to go 15-7 down the stretch? I don't think so which is too bad, and i'd rather they lose all of their games instead of come in 9th and get a **** pick.

9th is already optimistic. Mikey & Torts (ownership hire?) will move heaven and earth to try to get in but will fall just short. Calling it right now: we'll be drafting in the 12-14 range, in true Calgary fashion.

Hank and Danny are immune to this... and Henrik was trying to see if he could play in the Olympics AND help the Canucks as they had nobody else to turn to. His attempt to play said more about his guts than any loyalty he has to this coach... it may have spoken to his loyalty to Gillis, but not Tortorella.

Yeah, I'm sure Henrik was sitting around at home thinking

"Man, I gotta play through this for Gillis."

This roster is pretty roughshod but what is really worrisome is Torterella isn't getting the best out of them.

For being known as such a "great communicator", some veteran players sure look like they are lost under Torterella. Hansen, someone who for his entire pro career has been a top notch forechecker looks absolutely lost. Burrows, someone who has, at the very least provided a good defensive game, looks even more confused.

Obviously these players bare a lot of the responsibility but I wonder with how confused they look by what they are supposed to be doing out there if they have been frozen out by Torts like Weise.

Don't be foolish. Gillis has planned for the olympic break. It's all apart of the process. :sarcasm:

and if the team doesn't turn it around he can blame the Olympic break "Gee we couldn't really make moves because of the break, we didn't have enough time".

I am pretty certain Torts will not want to go through a rebuild. I would not be surprised to see Gillis trade prospects or picks for a top 6 forward especially if he thinks he is on the hot seat.

The Islanders pick is top 10 protected I believe, and rest assured Snowman will trade Vanek for picks/prospects after failing to sign him to an extension.

Buffalo would recieve the Isles 2015 pick.

If Torts was a pure ownership hire, i wouldn't doubt that it was Aquillini's solution to all the NTC handed out, like candy, by super Mike. Within one year JT will have 1/2 of those players demanding a deal, bolting for the KHL or taking early retirement. Who said the Sedins were onboard with the JT hiring? If you know anything about hockey culture behind the door, that means they rarely if ever say what they really mean. The game and the jobs are a gift and you do everything possible to avoid screwing up your spot in it, including speaking out. Lundqvist did and then did the 180 after feeling some heat.
The level of accountability in this organization is like Harper; no one has to stand behind a decision but there are always players to throw under the bus. Has Torts ever said that maybe, just maybe his 'all-in and maximum minutes' to his top horses has proven to be a disaster? If they're not falling due to blocking shots, their fatigue level is opening up other injury opportunities. Gillis' 'reset' was more a joke on himself than a description on any action he brought forward. While I understand and sympathize with the 'tank' crowd, it's just not feasible in a hockey-mad market and with the cap artificially low this year. People are still coughing up hard-earned dough for the lame 'outdoor' game, proving there's a sucker born every minute. The only means to get this ship turned around, other than wishing the judge had awarded the ex-Aquillini custody of the team, is a lot of empty seats. But for that to happen in this market, they've got to stink so badly for a couple of years or more before people start abandoning ship. But at least GMMG has something he can share with Whitecaps Lenarduzzi -- neither of them can find a goal scorer if it came giftwrapped.

You seem to forget - it's these SAME vets that got AV canned because of their performance - guys that should've shown more to a coach that was loyal to them. Time to remove some of these players that *both* coaches deserved better performances from. Hansen didn't just suddenly look meh THIS season for example.
