Game #6: Kings vs. Wild - 10/19/14 Kings Beat The Wild 2-1

I wish I could be irritated by the start to the season. They really haven't looked good. They have 3 guys doing any scoring, and Quick is doing everything else.

But for this team, as long as they're not 0-10, what happens in October means literally nothing.

It amazing how good Quick's numbers look when we are giving up shots left and right.
But this being outshot by and average of over 10 shots a game and giving up 36 shots against a game must stop. If we keep playing this way we are going to come crashing to the ground so hard.

Thrilled with the win.

Not thrilled with the play. The Kings really haven't played very well at any point so far this season. Even when they beat up on the beatables, possession hasn't been good, and it's been dreadful against good teams.

I knew they'd miss Mitchell and Muzzin... but this needs to get fixed fast.

I'm not concerned. As someone said on the talk show (and a great point, by the way), this is what the Kings do in the Sutter era. They win these ugly games you aren't supposed to win. They win these low scoring, "grind it out" games. They win ugly, and they frustrate the opposition.

And don't forget, we got that huge bullseye on our back. Every team is gunning for us every night, and we are missing three starters.

And we are 4-1-1. Think about it.

@ESPN_Burnside Hey Burnside, you gonna pick the Kings at 17th again this week? #WhenWillYouLearn

Exactly, Ron. Plus, you all think the Kings have somehow forgotten their identity in one offseason? Not worried in the slightest. Our injured guys will come back and things will self-correct.

Where this is true. In the Sutter era and even the end of the Murray era we haven't getting out shot by over 10 shots a game. And giving up 36 shots a game. And that is what the worry is to me. We are doing what we have to do to win. But look at what has happened over the last few years to teams that have been in just this position with shots. They win and then go into a tail spin. If we don't get this under control we are in trouble.

It's well a good we are 4-1-1 we have done it at home.

staples center a day game, a sellout, and cheering thru out and getting louder as we go, if you were there how often was a game like this in Oct. and left with a good feeling............i think we are starting to get a little spoiled , they are not playing badly and every team is coming in to measure them selves against us, and we are 4-1-1, last year when we out shot teams all we heard then was "all the shots are good but they are coming from the outside" and we were in the bottom 5 in scoring, we play very well in close games lets enjoy this and wait till 20-25 games in to see how we look

The key to shot differentials for the Kings is their forecheck. When everyone is on the same page and busting their butts, the forecheck is lethal and the Kings physically intimidate and wear down their opponents. Unfortunately, it's hard to play this way for 82 games plus playoffs.

Kings are saving their energy after 3 long SC runs and simply doing whatever they can to stay in playoff position. We'll know the Kings are back when everyone takes the body and the forecheck gets going.

We reject your calm logic and replace it with unfounded panic.

Wild fan here- Quick is the best goalie in the league (or at least in the group of 3 that can be called the best). His rebound control is unreal. The way he takes away the bottom part of the net is ridiculous. So many times the Wild had whacks at the puck right in front of him and he would not budge. They would get 3 or 4 shots at it and it was like a brick wall. The Wild make a lot of goalies look like all-stars, but in this game I think it was all Quick.

Nobody knows how the season is going to unfold, but what else does the team have to do to get a little faith? If they get it under control? Why do you question that at this point? How many times have the Kings gotten things back under control?

They're all seasoned, battle tested veterans, led by the same kind of coach. These aren't the Leafs. These aren't the Avs. They're not the Sharks or Blues, that yet again have to answer a bunch of questions as another season starts.

The Kings have played almost an additional season's worth of games in the playoffs over the last 3 years. That's almost an extra season's worth of playoff intensity, every game. If they don't look great in October, it's not anything to worry about right now. If they were 0-6, that's one thing. Every point the Kings get in the standings just gives them a little more time to figure things out though.
