I might be in the minority but I thought we took a step back from last game. DVO's line was god awful. 16 shots, 39%FOW, out chanced 2 to 1, terrible puck possession. Are we all happy because of the score? Are we thinking in our minds we stuck with a supposed SC contender? This team should have come out flying after last game, but I thought they were flat. Like last year, if not for Kuemper, we would not be talking about the missed icing call.
Better defensive structure (entire team, not just the back end) and like I said previously, that will in turn reduce offensive output.

Hayton Schmaltz Garland
Keller Dvorak Kessel
Caggiula Brassard Pitlick
Crouse Larsson Fischer

Maybe something like that? Give Hayton another look on the top line?

Really just keep Dvo/Kessel, Schmaltz/Garland, and the fourth line together. Everything else can potentially shift around.

It's nice to see some guys finding roles and carving out niches. Fischer for sure.

I don't feel like RT has done a good job telling players to play a certain role because it's needed to succeed. Tippet did an alright job at doing that with bottom 6 guys and the blueline he was given. BA seems to be making RT define role or is having these conversations separately. Either way, after six games it feels like BA is a little more than just a GM and has a finger in advising/coaching players as well. Or at least he is very hands on with coaching the coaching staff.

Just finished watching the replay.... that "non-call/blown call/whatever you want to call at the end was one of those 50/50 things that could have gone either way.

All the expert analysts in the Twitter Situation Room are providing plenty of grainy cherry picked freeze frame shots of what the call should have been in their opinion. But I'm fine with it.

Still lack the #1 center to drive offense. With how Garland keeps getting better, imagine if he was playing with a true #1. That's why I thought we should make a huge offer for Dubois. Unfortunately, they got a lot better offer than Schmaltz and Hayton even if that was made. I don't think this group can produce consistent offense again good teams. Same problem, new year. At least they have been better and more fun to watch. I don't think anyone seriously expected anything more than that.
Remember last year and how we started? We were fun to watch and winning. This year will be the same thing. Like you said, same problem new year, but we have a new GM that understands this. BA knew we were soft, so he kind of addressed that, now we need more talent. I guess my question about yesterdays game was why did the team come out flat, especially after winning a big game two days before? The FOURTH line was our best line with a #4 C. Also, if that is all Vegas has, as their coach suggested, they will be in for a long year as well.

I liked Fischer last night. I wanted more from our highest paid players.

Vegas is an elite team and we match up horribly with them. Even without OEL we nearly grabbed 3/8 points (possibly even 4/8 with a little OT luck).

I don’t think we’re making the playoffs this year. But I’ve liked a lot of the things I’ve seen so far. And that’s with some pretty tough luck so far. If things level out in the luck department and the effort level doesn’t dip too much, i think this team can be competitive in games regularly and in the playoff hunt until late.

Good in terms of watchable games. Tough on the GM at TDL time, though. Be prepared to hang onto a bunch of UFAs we won’t bother offering contracts to.

The puck was a couple of feet the wrong side of the red line when he wound up. By the time he released it, mere inches. But I’m less worried about that than I am by Marchy beating our guy for the puck anyway. I could see that mitigating the icing even if it was intended to be called.

Fischer and his fourth line team mates played very well. To bad the rest of the team decided to call it in. This team can play and has played better. I have also liked a lot of things so far, but if we have to depend on luck rather than effort this will be a short season. This team can play with Vegas if the effort is there. We have already proven that.

Like Legend stated, the icing is determined at the dots. Chick was way ahead of the Vegas player at the dot. Chick let up, then when he realized there was no icing he went to the wrong side of the net. RT also blamed Keller.

This is inexperience, Keller and Chych have to play until the whistle. RT should have said that, and that alone, doesn't matter if they call icing or not. Even saying Chych thought there was icing is a coaching mistake in my opinion. RT is teaching his players that it is ok to use excuses. I know this is subtle and nitpicking but it matters, this was a perfect teaching opportunity.

RT did say that. That play had nothing to do with coaching. I'll tell you what is coaching, is not having your team ready. This was the perfect game to make somewhat of a statement.

You're confusing flat with structured. While there were still some lapses, we didn't leave Keumper hang out to dry, with seemingly unlimited breakaways.

He was right to blame him, he completely let up, until he saw there would be no icing and then hustled and dove..... all too late.

I'm a bit surprised reading takes that we seemed to have a bad game, bad start etc. We just went nearly three periods holding the knights to zero goals and they played a stellar game. If you don't think they did, check out Deboer's comments, where he said it was their best game thus far.

We fought hard, deserved better, but it also gave the reminder to everyone that you can't let up even for a second, because the second you do, you'll give up a goal. Lesson learned, now let's move on and play a full 60 mins and the team will be alright. We played Vegas tough all 4 games, 1 game got a little wonky, but overall, I was impressed vs what we viewed last season. Last season it was SOG 50 to 20 and Darcy saved our bacon. This year we competed with them and gave them all they could handle in 2 of the games, but only came away with 2 pts. Learning experience for the young kids on what it takes to win.

We still need a #1 Center to help infuse some offense and free up skill guys like Keller. Keller was much better with Brassard, Hayton isn't offensively ready yet, defensively he's doing great, but not ready to drive a top line.

Until we get a real #1 C, we're going to have difficulty putting up consistent offense against top flight teams, that is just the way it is.

If you think we played a good game I hate to see your take on a bad game. We were playing defense all game. 16 SOG. Out chanced 2 to 1. If this was Vegas best game, they will be in for a rude awakening soon.

You aren’t wrong but you also need to give credit to the competition. They’re tough to handle.

According to you, that was my take on a bad game. o_O
I believe that it was you clamoring for better defense after one of the previous games vs the knights, this is what you received!

We played Vegas good for two games and that is why I'm so pissed at the other two games. It's always two steps forward, one step back. The fourth line was our best, with a combined salary of 4 mil. The fourth line had 12 of our 27 hits. Fischer had as many SOG than Schmaltz, Keller, Brassard and DVO combined, and Hammer had more SOG than those combined. Larsson, Hayton and Fischer each had more TKA than those four combined. The only positives out of this game for me was letting Hayton and Soderstrom play, seeing Fischer play good and that Kuemper has found his game.
