See that's the problem.... Trouba would most likely lay an ole fashioned Alabama beatdown on Boyle. So they win the game, probably the series and they embarrass the guy trying to exact revenge.

That's why it's good to have guys like Kassian on the squad. It would have been a meltdown after the Sid hit....maybe even changes the game for the better and the Pens hold on to the win. If it was complete chaos ensuing the hit, the media/league would not have been able to ignore the hit either.

No response by the Pens....... they assumed everything was fine.

We were up 2-0 at that point too. Aside from a blowout in the last 2 minutes, you rarely get a better opportunity in the playoffs to be able to 'respond' to a hit. You're right, if someone, anyone on the team would have even gotten in Trouba's face, the league may have looked at it a little differently. Instead, we 'just played', gave up 3 goals in 3 minutes, and ultimately lost the game. That, in a nutshell, is Mike Sullivan's brand of hockey.

I hope Carter has at least one big game left in him because he sure has to make up for the last game... Hopefully Rodrigues at center on L2 means less defensive responsibilities for L3 but Sully might somehow still believe Carter can pull it off. And please, don't ever put him on a line with Boyle. Don't put Boyle on the PK either, he has exceeded expectations big time but we need faster penalty killers.
We need to be smart because we certainly can't win with pure skill. Well, maybe if the Rags don't bother showing up like in game 4 but how likely is that?

Watching Boyle lumber around on the PK is awful. Why Kap isn't on the PK is beyond me

Yeah both those teams look more vulnerable than I thought. In their respective road games at least
Honestly every eastern team looks vulnerable. Not out of the question we could make the finals if we win this series and Sid comes back.

Personally it feels like Colorado is gonna be hard to stop though. They're on a mission.

As I posted in the PGT yesterday, the most interesting thing for me to see with this game and a potential game 7 is that I think this is where Malkin either makes or breaks his case to be re-signed in Pittsburgh next year. I think Malkin has mostly been decent in this series, but this type of situation is exactly the kind of situation he needs to step up in.

I think this series has shown that a Guentzel and Crosby led team can still be a legitimate playoff contender because both are still elite players. They just need a strong enough supporting cast around those two, and this game (as well as the second half of game 5 and a potential game 7) is a great tryout for this team to see if the current guys are that supporting cast.

Which is reason #1 why he needs to go, and not:

His ineffective line combos, his stubborness, the oversized ego that he's acquired since 2017, his bias against certain players while having blind spots about others who aren't exactly perfect either, his playoff failures from 2018 onward, or anything else.

How was Blue’s regular season (I didn’t watch this season)?

I’m surprised he wouldn’t be moved up to L2. He’s played well there before.

Like a lot of the team he started off great, got injured and when he came back he was pretty uneven the rest of the way. I'd keep him down the lineup if at all possible but FWIW I'd prefer him over Carter rn

I think if they have any chance of winning it will have to be the depth lines that step up.

I doubt L1 gets much going, tonight.
they'll have chances but not as much possession as with Sid, Geno will play more conservative, this is the game where Rust really needs to step up. He wasn't the force there even when L1 was creating and dominating...
I can see L2 does some damage, and thats about it...I wish he would put Blueger with Zucker and McGinn, that way we would have one functional bottom six line...

Yeah that's the way I see it. Malkin has very little confidence from what I've seen. Losing his shit the other day probably didn't help much, either. So I figure he plays extremely conservatively unless the team goes down a few quick. And frankly that's probably for the best since he can't do what he used to with the puck anyway or skate his way out of danger.

Like I said hopefully the depth lines can chip in uh... well... 4 or 5 since Domingue is starting.

Would be sad to lose this series because we have key guys who are close to returning and we'd put up a good fight against Carolina/Boston.
Yup.. we actually matchup well with both of those teams. We were about 30 minutes from accomplishing that as well, then Trouba altered the entire series.

He's got five points in five games. I think he's already proven that he can still produce in the playoffs. He hasn't been otherworldly but he's been fine.

Ideally, the Pens come out and score 3 early then spend the rest of the game repeatedly smashing Trouba in the head with "accidental" elbows

Maybe its the eternal pessimist in me but this feels like an uphill battle. The longer this goes the more due we are for an absolute terrible game from Domingue. Having to score 4+ goals every game to win and add to that being down Sid, hard to be optimistic.
