Good game Gaborik and Anisimov. Everyone else...we'll see how Saturday goes. They should be a bunch of happy campers at the STH night tomorrow.

To me the entire team has been brutal tonight. What a buzz kill for the excitement to come back. Gotta see it live!

It's only one game but I really expected more from these guys. It's a division game, playoff implications and we're flat. Again, what a buzz kill.

Totally agree. Pumped all day to watch a good game, expecting Jackets to come out flying with a never say die attitude. Instead I get the keystone cops unable to make simple passes and giving up goals like a pinball machine swallows balls. Can't lose more than 5 games out of the 24 IMHO. Strike one in the books tonight. Much tougher tests than the Devils lie ahead.

The team didn't completely collapse after going down 3-0 early, thus turning it into a 7-1 loss or anything like that.

Gaborik? Looked pretty good to me-or at least the best we had.

And I'm still struggling.

Gaborik looked ok for his first game back. Pretty goal, but he also looked kind of dumb on one of the goals.

I think the collapse aspect was probably more related to the fact that NJ doesn't have much of an offense and giving up 4 goals to them (5 with the EN) pretty much is a collapse.

Johansen blew... Hard... Horton was't much better. RJ blew. Murray looked out, but the rest of them we kind of jokes.

AA was the best forward out there for the most part and he really wasn't that good. Even our 4th line didn't look good. They really let NJ forecheck like that for most of the 3rd down two?

Bad, bad, bad game.

Luckily it's only one game, but still a big time stinker. That was a solid team effort to suck.

Oh I did forget one thing. Dubinsky had some good shifts.

The probably just should have done a Dubi/AA/Gaborik line.

The Devils have some quality snipers and they just rolled St. Louis 7-1, so let's not make it look like we got crushed by a bunch of AHLers. The answer to your question is that they outplayed us throughout.

Not only that, I think it was 3 goals(first 3) in 3 minutes or so. Not sure if you saw the highlights but the 4th goal(killer) ended up being a SHG with under a minute in the 2nd. Which was a comedy of errors by Johnson. The empty netter was kicked/tapped in by Wiz as well.

Need to put this one behind them and be ready to actually play hockey on Saturday.

Just like that, the gap between us and the Wings and Rangers has gotten pretty sizable.

Now 4-5-1 in their last 10. That record over the remaining 23 will put us back in the draft lottery. 5 points out of the wildcard slot right now. The only hope best hope will be 3rd in the division. If they stink up the joint against the Panthers, it might time to start thinking sell at the deadline with a game @ Toronto on Monday night.

I'm trying not to go into panic mode but they need to win the next 2 or a deep, deep hole will be dug. I'm still in shock they came out and laid that egg against a divisional opponent. Every point in the division is key right now. Beating NJ could have pushed them closer to being sellers at the deadline, instead they got let right back into the Division race.

The biggest goats of that opening period?

Letestu - Bad clear got picked off on the goal, and then didn't tie up Clowe, giving him multiple shots.
Johnson - Awful puck control, turnovers, overskating it.
Johansen - Bad penalty and trying to beat guys single-handedly and turning it over.
Bobrovsky - Panicking and not controlling rebounds.

The guys need to use each other and play physical. No single-handed rushes.

No mention of Gaborik standing next to Clowe and watching him score?

I'd have preferred he covered the slot on a broken play, yes. But I think Letestu is the goat there. The winger isn't usually expected to cover a guy when there's a center directly in front of him, and Letestu didn't tie his guy up.

Our defense is really bad....they are slow, clumsy, can't handle the puck, can't skate with it, can't shoot it on net, can't run the power play...it's endless how bad our defense is. Offense starts on the back end with outlet passes and passing around the points and we are terrible at all of it. Does anyone else's heart skip a beat when our defensemen pass the puck back and forth at the point? Every play is in danger of being intercepted and a breakaway the other way, or they can't keep it in. It's sad when the best puck moving defensemen we've ever had was Duvie Westcott. Pathetic. We aren't going anywhere with that group. I'm curious what this St. Denis is all about, I've seen all the other call ups and nobody has really impressed, why not give this guy a shot? I've read good things about him.

Bob was fighting angles and rebounds all night, I'm sure the transition back to the small surface had an effect on that. I'm not worried about him.

Gabby was OK, bad defense on the first goal. Was dangerous a few times, nice to see him in front of the net on his goal. He still wasn't skating the puck hard, but he was far from the worst forward tonight.

Dmac, Dubi, Cam showed up in spurts. That's about it. Everyone else looked like they were skating in mud. Horton needs a new stick, he fans on more shots than anyone.

Nobody wants to hear it, but Boll would have helped stop the bleeding in the first possibly. Not sure who would come out of the lineup, but when we aren't skating, a fight changes momentum and nobody brought any toughness until after the final horn. JJ had some good hits but was so bad in all other areas of his game that it didn't matter.

True, it wasn't his man technically, but he was standing next to him and gave him a peewee tap on the arm with his stick and didn't move his feet to get to him. Letestu was more at fault, I would absolutely put Letestu in the pressbox for Boll when he's healthy. At least he will hit and fight, Letestu doesn't fit the type of 4th line we need to be effective and he isn't good enough to play higher in the lineup.

I'm making the road trip to Toronto, I really hope I'm not wasting a bunch of money on an effort like tonight, I will have an epic meltdown in the Air Canada Centre if they come out and put an effort like tonight on. Hope they turn it around Saturday...

Letestu is our best per minute scorer in the last dozen or so games, you should wait until he stops scoring to resume your jeremiad against him.

It's impressive that two guys actually managed to come out +2 tonight. Praise to Foligno and Anisimov, who almost went +3 on a beautiful shot pass with about five minutes left. I'm hoping Coach Richards puts Gaborik on their wing and keeps them together.
