If only we had a forward, some forward, who actually looked great in the time that he played on that Bread-Strome line. Oh wait, we do, but he's getting 4 shifts per period and the least minutes of the whole lineup because defense or something. You need to have elite, stupid-penalty-taking, can't get out of your own zone defense to earn the "trust" of Gallant. I've never seen a coach run out combinations that don't work over and over again, while simultaneously refusing to go back to what DID work. If Strome and/or Panarin have that much control that they can dictate their line even when it isn't working, then either move them or fire Gallant and just make Bread/Strome the coach.

I agree with Carter that we are too early

This team reminds me of 2011-12 in the way that they are being carried by a goalie and winning games they shouldn't.

Want to know the move Sather made in 2012 at the deadline? a 4th round pick for John Scott. Sather knew that team wasn't ready and Drury should see that here as well.

They don't want to involve anyone else in the play. It's one of the reasons why I almost don't even want Kakko to be placed on their line. They will just try to use him the way they use Hunt, i.e. to retrieve pucks along the wall and play defense.

Zibanejad and Kreider don't get enough credit for really trying to integrate Lafreniere into their games. They treat like him an equal on that line, not just some guy who is going to cover up for them when they turn the puck over. Panarin and Strome never do that with anybody.
Strome isn't half the player Zibanejad is. It's really that simple.

And Panarin is starting to play like Strome. And that sucks.

Players I rather see on the 2nd line instead of Hunt:

Barron
Gauthier
Goodrow
Chytil
Miller (still better than Hunt)
Brodzinski
Greco
Pajuniemi
Ronning

You know what, i always felt that a guy like Ronning would look better playing with star players, i think he has the iq but not the ability to drive a line. But i think Greco would give us a Blackwell look there as well as a stop gap for kakko's return

Yeah, but in the O-zone. Those other guys do nothing with the puck at all and chase poorly.
You're not wrong, it's just that at least for me he manages to produce a visceral "I don't want to watch this" reaction that simply AAA hockey does not.

Do you think he looks like nearly the same player he did before this season? If you do I have to wonder what the hell you are watching.

Do you think its an age thing? If over a PPG is some kind of cliff he has fallen off of because he hit 30 than isn't he exceeding expectations? How many points does the RW have on his line? Has he played to Breadman levels? No, but he also had one of the best UFA seasons in the league so maybe he just raised the bar a little higher. But the Panarin bashing is unreal when he has an AHL+ player on his opposing wing and Ryan "predictably defer to Panarin every time I touch the puck" Strome. That line is predictable, just cover Panarin.

you could make the argument that if he picked up a good D like Johnny Oduya at the deadline instead of doing nothing but acquiring Scott things could have been different. And it's not like he wasn't trying to make a move, he was going hard after Nash but the Blue Jackets were asking for a ton.

Honestly not a bad thing. We can resign him for cheaper or let him walk. I was scared they would have to give him like 4 for 20

They act like teammates rather than guys holding court over a line like a HS cafeteria table.
