It has been that way the entire year in his own zone. People just take a few years to update their mental image of a player. He wasn't good last year either.

Hopefully the last two games have shaken Meruelo loose on allowing BA full latitude on RT.

Remember after the Chayka fiasco, RT was there for AM. He or XG mentioned how much they appreciated “Coach Toc” a bazillion times. They see a guy who stuck around and beat Nashville in the bubble after Chayka abandoned them. They see a hockey legend who they can trust. A guy who was there for them and is supremely well-connected, and helped them navigate the post-Chayka chaos.

BA is brand-new and has a lot to prove to these guys. After what happened with Chayka, I think they’ll have a hard time trusting fully for a while. Especially without results. It’s entirely possible when he broached the subject of making a coaching change, they looked at BA like he had two heads. They might think RT is the best asset in the entire organization. A keep at all costs piece.

The way he’s played the Coyotes would probably need to take on the Bob contract to get rid of OEL...okay maybe not that bad...but would take a really and or multiple bad contracts to move him.
