It's a nice luxury when you're 3rd pairing plays most of the even strength time, by a large margin, and allowed the other 2 pairings to get all the specialty team play.

If I remember correctly, you were ready to give on this team in November.

I've been ready to give up on this franchise every November, then I remember that I'd have to spend the rest of the winter fighting the TRO's that seem to pile up when I have too much free time on my hands.

Two things. Wisniewski has a 6 game point streak. He's worth the money.

Did George Matthews retire officially from the teams radio? Everyone is saying bye to him, I thought he was still going to call a few games here and there for the next few years?

He did the game Tuesday, one of I think a dozen that he'll do this year.

NHL.com again gave Nikitin a minus on the only Philly ES goal.
His pass to Anisimov when Horton couldn't beat Emery is up there with Murray's pass to Johansen last game.

Here is the truth as I actually spoke to him in Buffalo last weekend... (I have witness sources if required). I asked him about his time left in Columbus, he said he was calling 12 more CBJ games then retire from the CBJ... I asked about other venues and he said he was done for now, going home for a while... needs a break.

For the record.... I thought he said 12 more games in the heat of our conversation prior to the Sabre game in Buffalo, what he actually meant was only 12 games this season which I missed, the Philly game tonight was 12...

My apology

Mason was weak and a sprinkle became a flood too many times with softy goals, but it's not a like he tried to be bad. It's not like he was showing up the city. It just didn't work out and he's gone. Contrast that to Jeff Carter, who was a tool the way he pouted before he came here like this is Chernobyl or something, and then acted like a primadonna before he finally and mercifully was shipped to la la land. The one good thing Carter perhaps accomplished was hastening Howson's exit.

True. And I don't think chanting out Mason is completely classless, I mean he was pretty bad while here.

But I, personally, have more of an issue with Brassard than Mason. After being traded to the Rangers, Brassard went public about how it's hard to play hard for the Jackets because they suck and now that he's with the Rangers he can try harder and be more successful. Guess I'm just of the mindset that in sports journalism you should always attempt to be gracious towards a city and team, even if you don't actually mean it. "It was a valuable experience, the city and fans were great, I learned a lot. Now I'm really excited to see what I can do for the Rangers and the great fans in New York." That kind of thing.

I've only been a Blue Jacket regular for three years, but the feel of the crowd was different from any other of the 30 or so which I've attended. It felt and sounded like a fan base which had a team for which there were high expectations. It was a loud and confident crowd.

As someone mentioned earlier, the Mason chants (which I thought were alone worth the price of admission) were reflective of an engaged crowd. And as someone else pointed out, the "we want mason" chant won't compare to what he'll eventually face in the City of Brotherly Love.

I haven't checked the game summary, but it was a very good crowd for a below zero wind chill, awful night. So good that I didn't get my $10 cheapie. I did however score a $20 ticket which I didn't look at very closely (and when I did I had no idea what the section meant) and it ended up being a seat in a suite:laugh: Scalper error me guesses:laugh:

The power play on which Wiz played a perfect bank shot off of Calvert's skate had incredible puck movement and generated a ton of opportunities. It's always cool to see an NHL team operate a power play while at peak performance. The skill level of the passing is outstanding.

For those of you guys who have been with this team from the start, this has got to be an incredible experience. For a relative newcomer to CBJ hockey, it's been awesome to see how far this team has come in such a short time.

Anyone calling for Richard's head these days:laugh:

Great game and this team is playing awesome right now. But I was highly disappointed in the 1000th game honoring. Unless I missed it ( i got to the game just before the anthem and did walk around during the 1st intermission), not 1 single highlight from the teams 1000 games. I broke out my year 1 Aubin jersey for the event, but other then commercial sponsors, no Gardner goal, no Sanderson goals, no Knudsen highlights, no Wright moments. It would have been cool to see them back in the original jersey for the game. While i'll certainly agree our past was not good at all, there is some history to the team. Maybe we should have sent them the link to the favorite moments thread started on here so they'd have some ideas :sarcasm:

Game story from the Philly Inquirer:

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/flyers/Blue_Jackets_blast_the_Flyers.html

Here are some entertaining quotes:

One of the unique features of Nationwide Arena is a handcrafted, 1,564-pound Civil War-era cannon that rests on the concourse.

The Blue Jackets, after all, are named after Ohio's Civil War history. Union Army Gen. Ulysses S. Grant was one of five Ohio-born officers to serve as president of the United States.

The replica 1857 Napoleon cannon is filled with 8 inches of black powder for charge and fired after every Blue Jackets goal, scaring the uninitiated every time. BOOM!

Flyers coach Craig Berube might now need hearing aids.

Fans inside the lively and underrated arena chanted, "We want Mason!" throughout the game - begging for a crack at Steve Mason, their former Calder Trophy-winning goaltender who was once the face of the franchise. He did not start in either trip back.

When it was all over, fans were chanting, "Go home, Flyers." And then the cannon blasted one more time after the final horn, just for good measure.

I must be the only one who doesn't really see 'we want mason' as derogatory towards him. I see it more of a mocking of Emery and the Flyers than anything else. If the kid's feelings are hurt or whatever, tough nuts. I wouldn't mind a shot at him either, after watching his slough through the last few years here. He only got into shape and worked extra hard when Bob was brought in. Too little, too late. I wish him well, but he doesn't get Jody Shelley status (always loved, appreciated) with me.

This, pretty much. My love of the "We Want Mason" chant had less to do with razzing Mason and more to do with snubbing Emery. Sort of a "hey, we're letting you guys play against our starter/your former guy; extend us the same courtesy. Emery is not a challenge. We want to see the guy who's (ostensibly) turned his game around. We want your starter! WE WANT MASON!" ;)

just some notes...

great game...i went into it a bit worried that we would lose a close one, glad i was wrong

the original "we want mason" chants were started the first home game, actually by Philly fans by us in 107 that night when they wanted Emery pulled after we went up...the crowd took it and ran with it...I love it

FTR Carter never asked for a trade, so all of you lumping in with Foote are STILL wrong...but semantics i guess...

glad to see us only 1 pt from 2nd with THREE...wait, yes THREE games in hand on NYR...

the cross check to Tyutin still bugs me this morning...was a hell of a dive there to get that call...b/t that and the end of the 2nd they on Flyer shot the puck at the sideboards (and damn near hit a ref), I wanted unsportsmanlike called...but neither were...

we did get away with a couple high sticks that weren't called in the 2nd...I forget who by...so I won't kvetch about them not calling the one at the end

Its nice to watch a team that faces adversity and can come back from it...the lack of any kind of decent shots on the double minor early was tough and then the Flyers scored twice, I'm glad we didn't fold like past CBJ teams would have...

Crowd took a period to get into it, but another standing O for last couple minutes of the game was nice to see...

I miss the victory flag being planted at center ice...but that's just me...

I thought the Jackets tried to be too cute the first half of the game. They dominated but found themselves down by one. Thought they settled down and played their game the rest of the way.

Need a big win on Saturday now.

It is semantics. And you're right the situations aren't the same. Nash and Foote were grown-up human beings enough to approach another grown-up human being and voice their preference. I can feel betrayed as a fan by that, but at least they were honest and handled their situations like grown-ups.

Jeff Carter may have never asked for a trade, but his behavior from the first time he walked into the dressing room conveyed as much, which is worse than just being a man and asking for one. Who knows, he probably had many conversations with Howson behind the scenes that were never publicly aired.

Didn’t Boll or someone say they knew he would be gone the first day of training camp? From reading between the lines of media speak he wasn’t very popular in the locker room and he wasn’t trying to make any friends.

In a weird way I sorta like that he's part of our history. You're not a real franchise until you have a few guys to legitimately disdain, but that he won the Stanley Cup that year still irritates me to no end.

I think you'll enjoy it, EDM. The whole attitude toward the Jackets has taken a major turn, recently, around the league. Oh, there are still thread where fans of other teams downplay the record, personnel, attendance, etc. in Columbus; but, slowly, the word is getting out that this is a pretty good team, the Arena is a lively place, and there are more than two or three hardcore hockey fans in Central Ohio. Teams are definitely not looking forward to easy wins when they face the CBJ, nor are their fans automatically putting a "W" up next to the Jackets on their schedules!

...then you should have been chanting EMORY, EMORY in a mocking fashion

Yeah, that was going around, too. Nobody who has read my posts over the years should be surprised that I'm not a fan of either. In addition, there is a very loud young man over my right shoulder who not only starts/joins chants throughout the game, but he gives coaching instructions, as well. Right, they need your help.

Why is it that the most obnoxious folks often have the loudest voices?

Perspective is a funny thing. The Jackets have 56 points and our fan base is as excited and energized as it can be. The Flyers have the same 56 points, but reading the comments on their forum page, they're about ready to hang themselves.
