Goloubef and Murray was actually a stellar pairing (imagine that) and should give the team at least a slight glimmer of hope on the blue line. The only question I have is, why did it take so long to get Goloubef into the lineup?

Didn't Golo play a lot of great minutes down the stretch last year, including some with Murray? I went into the summer with the expectation that Golo was way ahead of Connauton/Prout on the depth chart, and I was surprised that the org/Richards had a different opinion.

I didn't mind our play in the first period. It was just 10 minutes of the 2nd where we got owned.

Another depressing ending.. and to be at the game - its been awhile since I heard boos like this and saw someone throw something on the ice..

Maybe I'm insane but, actually making the trip to Chicago tomorrow to witness our first win of the year.... yeah, I said it... CMac & the win train start tomorrow -- woooot!

You're absolutely correct; and my own season preview of the team had this pairing starting the year together. I think Goloubef is absolutely underrated by this franchise and is far more valuable than Connauton. Tonight was a step in the right direction, Cody is quietly a very good defenseman.

You do not want Torts. As bad as Richards is, Torts will be worse. The guy is not meant to coach in the NHL anymore. I hated watching the Canucks with him

I'll point out the positives:

Hartnell played well, and was rewarded with two points. Goloubef and Murray was actually a stellar pairing (imagine that) and should give the team at least a slight glimmer of hope on the blue line. The only question I have is, why did it take so long to get Goloubef into the lineup?

The fourth line wasn't a hindrance and had some nice shifts, but failed to make enough of a difference. Saad skated hard to begin with, but by the end of the game looked deflated.

The rest? A bunch of soft, gutless efforts, shrouded in mediocre shift after mediocre shift, floating around and watching one of the least talented teams in the league skate circles around them.

Unacceptable. There needs to be some BIG changes, and fast. It won't get any easier as the season wears on ... if the team is to bounce back and play up to their potential, it's now or never ... and I fear that this fanbase (aside from the die-hards I know and love on this board) simply won't take many more losing seasons surrounded by promises of great things.

My bigger concern is the county and Nationwide getting sick of losing money and pulling the plug on the arena.

Goals against:

Gardiner goal - Prout slightly mishandling the puck, but the bigger issue is that all five of the guys collapsed low and to the side of the net. Wide open shot for Gardiner. This looks to me like the guys don't trust each other to do their jobs. All 3 forwards went low and to the side to help out Prout and Tyutin, and that's not okay. Collapse around the net, maybe, but not that low.

JVR goal - I'm not sure if Bob misplayed it or not. It was a really well done screen shot, and Bob was slow to pick it up.

Kadri goal - This one's on JJ, obviously. No look pass to the slot. We really need to not do that.

Lupul goal - Another bad angle goal on Bob.

Komarov goal - Obviously Jenner screwed up.

If anything, Richie put Golo in for the wrong defenseman tonight.

But, another thought: when Bob is confident and gloves/stop a shot, he skates from side-to-side and looks to dump it off -- almost taunting the other team. He is holding on it to for dear life now. The early season has tainted him

Hows our advanced stats and all that ****? I'm truly curious. Does it say we're having bad luck or whatever?

Corsi For % 5vs5 ranks us 4th BEST in the league (through 4 games) and Fenwick has us 7th yet we were -10 at even strength:

So, I guess most advanced stat heads would answer yes to that. An advanced stat head should feel free to correct me if I'm wrong:).
