The problem is ownership and the fans don’t have the patience for a full rebuild. They’ll go out and sign another Panarin instead of drafting well. See also Brad Richards, although that 2011-2012 team did have an identity at least, and they had heart. Just didn’t have enough skill.
The other team in the same building is doing fine. We can't keep blaming ownership.

100%

They were on a path for a rebuild, then decided to sign Panarin out of the blue. So much for that rebuild lol.
If Laf & Kakko were even 50% as good as advertised it would’ve been a just fine rebuild. Just imagine this team with Hughes & Stutzle. We tore it down and accumulated futures, those futures just turned out to be massive busts.

The Knicks are looking like a legit contender. They have an identity and they didn't need to blow it up to do it. Thibodeau came in and created an identity. Brunson fit the culture. Putting guys in an organizational system that works for them is what allows them to develop and exceed expectations. The Anunoby trade turned the season around even though people didn't like it because Anunoby fits the team. The Knicks know who they are.

I bring up the Knicks because it's the same owner. It's not at the feet of Dolan. It's at the feet of Drury.

This is now.

Don't omit the horror-show that was the Knicks for almost 20 years with constant head coach changes and constantly finishing bottom of the league.

They finally put people in charge who had a plan besides going after big names and papering holes. The Rangers should give it a whirl.

Recently...now, yes.

But there have been almost 20 years of dysfunction that have Dolan's thumb-print.
And during those years the Rangers had an identity for some of it. The truth is, the Rangers have never been able to forge an identity post Torts, sans a few AV years that were largely built on Torts' foundation. They need to bring in a coach and build it up from scratch. One that they're going to stick with longer term and let them build an identity around.

They play like they have never played with each other. Barely moving and easily marked. No movement. No nothing.

Strangers.
