Good smooth skater, can carry the puck out.

Good passer on breakouts, seems to have decent vision for finding guys.

He's an every day NHLer in my mind, but I agree with your sentiment that he doesn't have a real defining trait and maybe doesn't have a role on the team now or going forward.
