True, but trauma recovery is a long process
Experience in the playoffs that young players could use, but they won’t be there. It’s basically tellling them when we suck again you’ll be up. Until then we’ll keep pushing you out as long as we can squeeze the life juice out of the remaining top players and supplement them with players that while won’t contribute much they will certainly will be less prone to rookie mistakes.Monty has never brought into the idea of this being a 'transition year'. And to be fair as a coach it's difficult to expect him to - these guys often have short shelf lives so unless you're on a clearly and openly rebuilding team, every year is 'win now' for a coach. And that means playing your best 18 and prioritizing short term goals over long term gains.
There's still been some good results on the rookie front though - Beecher, Lohrei and Poitras have all had solid game time and experience, Merkulov has at least been sighted. Lauko is no longer a 'kid' as such, but him becoming a regular at 23 is still good to see and a handy injection of younger talent. We could hope for more, but in terms of setting up the team's future there's been some definite progress made.
But we're into the back half of the season now and the organization, rightly or wrongly, believes it's a legit contender. So they're going to act accordingly. Which means the kids are only going to get games if they're fully earned, like-for-like, on merit. Even for Poitras, despite his unusual position, this will be true on the run home and into the playoffs.
I get what you're saying and I largely agree with it - I was all on board this season with putting a real focus on giving the best prospects full opportunities to learn and develop, make their mistakes and be better for them. But things have unfolded as they have and the Bruins are top-3 in the league again. For better or worse they're almost obliged to take another run at a Cup, however slim the chances of success, so it's experience to the fore and we'll just have to see how it pans out.
I hope people in the crowd can separate Neely and Sweeney the players from Neely and Sweeney front office.
I really hope Anson Carter is there tonight. One of my favorites
A new contract for Grzelcyk? To everyone having grz in the trade deadline contest I would rethink that
Dude is going nowhere AND staying in the lineup
Yes.... Hopefully with a new teamA new contract for Grzelcyk?
A new contract for Grzelcyk? Will they give him 4 more years?
He was lucky as a player to be Bourque’s partner for most of his career, and he inherited a great core of players for a GM. He has done good things but he started with some Aces up his sleeveI would say Sweeney has been a better GM than he was a player.
What she said....GDT Rant (Pay attention @Roll 4 Lines ):
So the rivalry between the Bruins and the Hated Habs is over, is it? Les Canadiens are at .500 half way through the season & haven't won a Cup since 1993, nothing to see here.
What.the.f***. This is the motherf***ing Evil Empire of the NHL, the hockey equivalent of the New York Yankees during the George Steinbrenner era & the NFL Oakland Raiders of the Al Davis era (you young folks can google those names). The franchise that broke the hearts of Bruins fans so often & so badly not even Dr. Michael DeBeakey (look him up too) could fix them. For 45 f***ing years no matter how hard the Bruins played they just could not get past Montreal at any point during the playoffs (1971, f*** Ken Dryden. 1979 the team f***ing forgot how to count.). For 45 f***ing years fans of these poutine swilling scumbags taunted Bruins fans with their arrogance & entitlement. And that was just during the playoffs. The regular seasons were no better.
I don't care that at last in 1988 the Bruins finally beat the wearers of the toilet bowl crest in a playoff series. I don't care that Montreal has not won a Cup since 1993. I don't care how tough their asshole fans have it now. As far as I am concerned Montreal can never suffer enough defeat, humiliation & embarassment.
So yes I want the Bruins to beat the absolute snot out of the wearers of the blanc, bleu et rouge. I want them to run up the score. I want the Bruins to beat up those motherf***ers in addition to beating them (please God let Parker Wotherspoon be in the Bruins lineup tonight). I want Montreal to leave the Garden whimpering with their tails between their legs.
So yes @Roll 4 Lines f*** the Habs. f*** their team, their management & their fans. Always & forever.

I get what you are saying, but they shouldn’t be obligated to gut the future because they have a good regular season team.
Also for damn sake Hfboards, they are getting overly excessive with refreshing your browser on mobile to get another AD in. Its ridiculous now
