Keep your "trap" shut! just kidding. a trap game usually constitutes "looking forward too much" towards the next game. Does this team think they are "that good" that they can surpass a game in which Columbus (even though very young) still provides a physical encounter? I dont believe they can afford to do that. One period and one game at a time, but DO need to get better starts, starting with tonight.
If anything, they're looking to reaquaint themselves with Mats, but that's about it. Win baby, just win!

The gap between the #8 and #9 teams in the east is astronomical right now, the playoffs teams are pretty much all already determined unless something catastrophic happens.

The Islanders actually aren't that far back of Washington. Washington has slid lately. We're actually 5 points up on them and we have a game in hand on them.

The Islanders have 9 (!) games in hand on Washington and sit 19 points back. Of course they have to actually win those games, but theoretically if they win each of those games they're only 1 point back from them. It's unlikely (plus they play Washington 3 more times this season so if they lose each of those it's basically caput) but they're not as far back as they seem from Washington.
