GDT: Game 44: OUR LOVABLE SEATTLE KRAKEN (18-22-3) at some other person's Detroit Red Wings (19-18-4) - noon PST

  • Work is still on-going to rebuild the site styling and features. Please report any issues you may experience so we can look into it.
See you all next game against...Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday 4 pm Pacific,5 Mountain Standard time

Have we ever had a quieter GDT? I get that it’s a Sunday afternoon game, and one they were out of quickly, but this is a bad omen for a Kraken team trying to keep fans, both here and at Climate Pledge, invested. Apathy can kill a franchise,
Everyone was watching the BIlls vs Broncos

Sometimes you have to ride out the wave of apathy knowing there are good times ahead I have faith they have a plethora of Good/Great prospects accumulated by GMFrancis and Scouts...another good/great draft should point this Franchise in the Winning direction for years to come...patience is a virtue some have said

I’m a former Canucks fan. Patience was ingrained. lol
I just want to see drive, fire, and passion, whatever the outcome.

I'm checked out until the team gets some fresh blood or takes a fresh direction. We know they're not going anywhere as constructed.

One of the weirdest mirror-image reversals in two games that I have ever heard or seen in sports.

Well the Kraken did that reversal in one game vs the Blue Jackets a few weeks back. Worst period of the season followed by two of the best.

I’m not watching the NFL, I’m so apathetic that I didn’t even realize there was a game today

Seeing the score, I’m glad I missed it.

Its that fkcing back to back BS...I'm blaming it on that...Gesu I'd make it a bone of contention in the next CBA...its different when a team is in Edmonton then Calgary or NY-NY-NJ, Winnnipeg-St Paul or Vancouver-Seattle,Buff-TO...they could at least make one game an early game(noon) and the other a late game(8pm) for crying out loud

Gru's save percentage today was .250%. If that is not one definition of "rock bottom," I don't know what is.
And he had played some decent/Good/great games but also some real stinkers unfortunately

Why bother being excited about the game when Gru is in net and there's like a 50% chance every game is going to turn out like this? My 70 year old mother could do a better job in net by just standing there. They should tape up one of the goalie practice cutouts and call it a day. Not that the team is playing well either.

Goals Saved Above Expected is a better metric for evaluating a goalie than save percentage or GAA. Grubauer simply doesn’t make big saves often enough, and he lets in shots NHL netminders are expected to stop.
Today may not have been his fault, as the D was truly horrendous, but he didn’t stop the bleeding, either.
Sorry, Ray. It’s not the back to back games, although you have a point re geography.
Coming out to start the game looking as bad as the Kraken did today is inexcusable in highly conditioned athletes. Maybe fatigue catches up later in the game, but not in the first period. They simply sucked, and there’s no excuse for it.

Gru's had a nightmare season. If there's a player in the top five of the draft that the team has their sights on, they're going to keep using him to give the best chance of getting their guy.

I would be perfectly happy with this team tanking if they just said they were rebuilding and not trying to contend. Or if they didn't sign guys like Stephenson and Montour (even though I mostly like the Montour signing) and played our prospects. But the only real guy we've played as a prospect this season has been Winterton and I'd say that several of our prospects could at least use a cup of coffee.

I guess I'm glad that this draft is pretty good top 5 wise but I honestly am not even sure we get there. And if we don't...it'll be specifically because we have guys like Montour and Dunn etc on our roster.

By this stage the Kraken braintrust need to find some dignified way to put Grubaker out of his misery, short of ordering a Mafia hit, of course. Can he be sent down to the minors, given a six-month vacation in Tahiti, bought out mid-season, made an assistant coach--anything, really, to get rid of him off the team.

Gru was starting, this start shouldn’t surprise anyone.

He needs to be cut. Eat the contract or lose more games due to his piss poor play.

They could've started Hellebuyck or prime Vasylevsky and would've been spanked.

That was just horrendous "defense" by everyone and Grubauer, no matter how bad he's been before, being left alone.

I mean, just look at the first one Joey gives up.
Absolutely nothing anyone should call defense in front of him.

Anyways, I'm basically just curious what all the traveling CEO's of the team are doing on this trip and what it might lead to.

BTW: In the end it also looked a bit like Bylsma has lost the room with all those stupid and useless penalties late in the game.

Grubauer is fulfilling his important role this year (tank commander).

I expect him to be bought out in the summer. There's also nothing stopping us from putting him in Coachella Valley, but that would be a waste of money relative to a buyout.

This game isn't one of the ones to showcase how bad Gru is, I agree. He wasn't the issue on those goals.

The problem with tanking is it takes years for it to pay off, and even that is not a guarantee.

Seattle isn’t making the playoffs this season, why not use it to find out what we have in the minors by bringing prospects up here and there, including the goalie position?

I’m not saying throw the kids to the wolves but maybe be able to speed up the development.

It's because it would mean throwing the kids to the wolves.

Guys like Sale, Firkus and Nyman are probably best suited playing a full season in CV before being called up and thrown into the current situation of this team.

So it's rather going to be someone like Winterton etc. and that's something you can do after we trade Gourde, Tanev etc...

Can't wait until we don't trade anyone and don't call up anyone after the TDL. And 9 games wouldn't ruin any of the kids you mentioned, though I'm not sure those are the guys I'd say are NHL ready.

That's a whole lot of money to burn I'm thinking GMFrancis is not doing that besides he gets replaced with what? Stezka? Kokko? Someone on another teams AHL Farm...In another years time perhaps...losing Borgen hurt more than some people realized I thought he was pretty decent numero sei RDman but maybe the Kraken were thinking to get something for him before he departed for the UFA "waters"!!!

I fear Bylsma is gonzo but maybe some of the players should be but are either hard to move or aren't worth a hill of beans at this point...I bet some if moved to the right teams would become "Stars" yet again or at least better than they've shown
I doubt we have any forwards that turn into stars on other teams, but they will be able to do better since they are complementary players. Other than maybe McCann.

But if we choose to wave the white flag this season and treat next season as another gap season, we could start moving players with value to stock up on prospects and high picks. Anyone who is NOT part of the picture starting 2026-27, should be move this TDL or coming off-season.

If we pick top-5 this season, we could have the likes of Catton, Martone/Misa/Eklund both ready to step in the 2026/27 season. It seems like a long way away but this team has the potential to be fun in 2026/27. We may still not be competitive right away but we are likely to have some talent coming in from the prospects.

Catton
Martone/Misa/Eklund
Firkus/Sale/Nyman (could be sooner)
OFM

Not saying all these kids make it over full-time but I think 3 of these is not a real stretch.

I will disagree with you about the impact of losing Borgen. Mahura has been good in that role and Kakko has more than made up for anything positive that Borgen bought.

That plus if losing Borgen is the reason we have been this bad, it is a terrible look for the management. He is a 3rd pairing D who does not really contribute must on offense.

I think Gru needs to be moved simply because management needs to signal a change in attitude. Unacceptable play means you need to be replaced. Same for Burakovsky, even if he is traded for a similar bad contract player.

I fully agree. Those two players are far from performing how they should. If we’re going to be bad, be bad while sending a message to the guys who are sticking around. “We see the results and are trying to help”. The key is to make sure the replacement anchor is shorter.
