its not

was rootin for him but aint workin. team always comes out flat when he starts too.
Yeah, he played decent enough for 4 of 5 games before Todd and the team just didn't score in 3 of them, but since the Buffalo yanking, I think the team just seems off when he plays, I think the players have no confidence in Husso if he lets one in early.

If that is the case, there is little sense in playing him again, but they may have no choice if Lyon is not ready by Sunday. If the team cannot (will not) play (well) in front of Husso, it may affect SY TDL options.

Statistically, the wings played well enough to win, but from my eye test, they did not, way to much puck watching by the skaters and not enough gap control and checking. That could have been a 3-2 win or a 5-4 win for the wings. These are things the coach can hopefully fix.

I suspect T-Mc will start him again over calling up Campbell/Cossa until Lyon is back as he is still in the evaluation phase of the team, and poor performances are part of what he is looking for and to fix.

Well that game was a disappointment. Steve needs to find a sucker to take Husso. Maybe we can get a 6th if we are lucky.
On the bright side, at least we are scoring more. Tank got 2 last night, finally.

We were due for a reality check.

Looks like Tarasenko could get going at the same time Cat cools off.

Larkin had a poor game as well. It was kind of comical watching him skate in circles on their 3rd goal (I think), never finding the right guy to cover.
Larkin doesn't have many flaws in his game, but that third goal showed the one that occasionally pops up with him. He is such a good puck retriever, he will give up covering his man to go get it. Gave up on staying with Celebrini and didn't come away with the puck. Sharks made him pay. The lazy turnover after winning the opening draw didn't help either.

But Larks at least atoned for his mistake on that pretty face off win and pass to Raymond for a goal.

Barring a big rash of goalie injuries, I don't see anyone paying to take Husso this year.

He will likely sign in the off-season with a team that actually plays defense on a minimum type deal and be a real steal for them...the fiasco last night was a real (sarcastic) team effort.

Question:

Does "East West Hockey" imply a lot of cross-ice passes that are easy to intercept? Does "North South Hockey" in turn imply a lot of direct attacks down the slot with not enough maneuvering?
To some degree yes.

East West Hockey I take to usually mean more puck possession. Spreading the ice out. More passing overall and trying to attack those lanes between the dots. On the negative it can lead to cutesy play, overpassing in general and badly time cross ice passes. You typically hang on to the puck longer but this can also lead to worse give aways.

North South I tend to think of as a more breakout/ rush style of offense that typically lends itself to more dump/chase hockey. You hang onto the puck less, play more of a quick strike offense, skate the puck more, and drive the net more. When cycling the puck I think you see more of the mentality of get it to the point and get the puck back on net. The negative of this style being you spend a lot more time chasing the puck, and rely more on odd man breaks to score.

He really does tend to do this a bit. He chases the puck instead of covering his man.

yeah we've been in a real funk lately, like the last 7 games
By wake up, I mean the wings have to show up and play f____g hockey every game, too many of them did not show up last night against a team they should beat. If you want to watch the puck, go sit in the press box.

They can play lights out for the next 4 games for 60 minutes per game and still lose 3 or 4 of them...they need to wake up and win the games they should, especially at home as their season hopes will go south in a hurry if they play down to the teams they should beat.

I hope they don't have a big slide at this stage of the season, but this team needs to find the consistency to be able to win any game on a given night...it was not there last night (and not even close to being there)...and I doubt the coach will GAF about the last 6 and 2/3's of the games, he will focus on the last 1 1/3.

How the team deals with this lose over the next week will dictate the rest of the season.

Not upset they lost . They didn't get dominated , just some bad plays . They will learn. Holl should be permanent #7 defansman, just feel bad for Husso.

I am very perplexed by the people bitching about Husso. He had very little to do with the outcome of that game. He was repeatedly sold down the river last night by a shit performance from the defense and center group.

Thursday is a massive game for this team mentally.

2 of the goals were on him. An average goalie would have had those.

They didn't have a good game, but every team has bad games. NHL starter level goaltending necessitates that you sometimes make the saves that are difficult to make. He made essentially 0 difficult saves all night. He should have had at least 1 or 2 of those. The first one was terrible, and the one on Granlund wasn't great either, even though it was a breakaway.

If Talbot is in net, we probably are tied 3-3 in the 3rd despite how terribly we played.

Husso should be waived again. No one will trade for him, his confidence is shot and he can only hurt us. Call up Cossa if we have no other goalie. We gave this game away trying to give him a mercy start...
We?
Mclellan? Yzerman?

Watch him sign some where and wins Vezina.

The team doesn't trust him and plays badly in front of him because of that. A little like Greiss a couple of years ago. Greiss wasn't a completely bad goalie, but he ended up being not trusted by the team and they lost games because of it. IMO.

You'd think if you didn't trust your goalie you wouldn't give up 10 bell chances all night.

What I believe happens is that when you don't trust the guy(s) behind you to do their jobs well, you try to do their jobs for them, which takes away from your ability to do your job.

If you have reasonable faith in your goalie, it's bad if someone gets by you. If you don't have that faith, it's REALLY bad, so you try extra hard to not make that happen. And like a day at the range, the ideal state is "relaxed enough to be loose without being so relaxed you have no precision." If you get sloppy at the range, you miss a lot. If you get tense, you miss a lot. You want that ideal middle state where you make it look easy. Same on the ice, I suspect.

That's my understanding anyway.

Which is not to say that the rest of the team wasn't stinky last night, because they were. I just personally think that one of the reasons was the "oh boy, Hu's in the cage" factor. Remember the Jekyll & Hyde days of Bernier and Greiss?

From the two periods I saw they definitely looked like the previous version of the Wings who did not trust each other. I know someone was saying Larkin was running around on the third goal, and he was. But honestly coverage was so screwed up i couldn't figure out who was supposed to have which man because so many guys picked up the wrong guy.
