Lol. This was way bigger than a 'Josh Brown' problem. It was a complete team fail with zero forward support and all of the d getting beat net front and in coverage. No stops behind them but the Penguins completely pushed the Oilers shit back with hard, aggressive forecheck and target practise with repeating free open look night.
Brown didn't even have a bad period, people suggesting him being in the lineup is why we are losing by4 goals when he was a -1 is crazy and the team had 7 shots in the first period....people are just making up reasons to be angry now.

There just isn't any nuance. It has killed conversation on the guy.

It's basically "he is the worst goalie ever" (GMofOilers) or this "blame everybody but him"

These two schools of conversation make everyone's posts more extreme and make things more black and white.
I've always said the kid is a good backup, probably a very good backup. But his problem is and has always been inconsistency.

When he's good, he's very good, when he's bad, you see whatever abomination this is.

no, its more that if anybody says anything in defence of Skinner they get jumped on by the crowd that hates the poor guys guts. Its not a "both sides" things. Its a one side of the arguement is unhinged. Saying something wasn't/isn't skinners fault isn't sucking the guys dick.

His legs were too busy/wtf was he doing on goal 1. But yeh the coverage failed him on those other goals but you’d want 1 or 2 saves on those 3 goals. Obviously not Stu’s sharpest night. And this team will know they need to be better in front of him too.

It's off a deflection in close, and an immediate shot off a rebound.

The rule for me is if the Oil scored that goal, and am I thinking the goaltender spotted them one? I can't say that for any of the 4 against, even if I'm not a massive fan of the 2nd and 4th goals.

You'd think a goalie wouldn't fold like a cheap tent giving up 4 goals in a period. Like I said earlier with premium goalies at least they'd make some quality stops, keep a team in it in a period where there not on. Doesn't happen often here. If this is half of the teams in the league they exit a period like this down 1 goal because their goalie is doing some stoning.

Too much to ask.
he's not a "premium goalie" though....why do you expect him to be something he's not?

Skinner is what he is. Don’t like him? Blame the org that hasn’t made goaltending a priority in over a decade.

Nah, it is both sides. I think you're missing a lot of conversation if that's your take.

Oilers have half a game to work with to mount a comeback against one of the worst defensive teams in the league.

Lets see if they have any resiliency

sports media credentials nowadays are “can you write at a grade 5 level” and “how good are you at saying a bunch of nothing and / or stirring up fans”

Clueless, so I could see them thinking the D always sucks even though it’s statistically not true and that Skinner is the best goalie in the league or whatever like some here think
Like.

I go by that same rule. But I can’t figure out what reasonable explanation Stu had to open his legs like that. Weird one.

This is very good practice in having to bear down and come back and win under almost impossible conditions... Thanks Stu for your efforts to focus this team on attaining success in any situation.

Is anyone here actually suggesting that our 2 million dollar goalie is a world beater and the best goalie ever? No. There isn't a homogenous "praise skinner crowd" its a case by case basis. HOWEVER there is a very loud and very vocal anti Skinner crowd here that will not give any credit when its due and will make sure to point out every little mistake or error, and do so with glee and a smile.

I think if goaltending could have made a save at 3-1, the Oilers would have come back. Back breaker
