Game #4: Kings vs. Oilers - 10/14/14 Kings Beat Oilers 6-1

Laughing at the TSN replay description "The Kings scored six unanswered goals which included a pair from Tanner Pearson, as the Oilers were unable to earn their first win of the season." It's like they don't know what an unanswered goal is, silly Canadians.

Why play the nationality card here ? Stupid comentary happens in every country

Did Nolan play after knocking the puck down with his hand? I remember seeing kopi playing on the 4th line in the 3rd and don't recall seeing Nolan take a shift. Just worried thats another man down and another rookie about to debut tomorrow night.

"Unanswered goals" is one of the most simultaneously overused and misused phrases in sports. Its maddening.

He did play the rest of the game. I was sober for this one and spotted him quite a few times.

I'm really hoping Sutter will start putting Toffoli and Pearson on power play. He drives me bananas with that ****! Both looked good last night.

Good game against poor, very poor, oponent, Oilers just gave up after 3rd goal.

Last two games were just what Kings needed to get in shape.

Is somebody coming up?
Or is this just cap saving move?

Neither. IR doesn't save cap space, his contract will still count against the cap. Which means we don't have the space to call anyone up (there are emergency provisions but we're not at that point yet and likely carry a penalty).

If he's going to miss 7 more games they can put him on Long Term IR which will allow them to spend over the cap, but that means he's out for 2 more weeks.

In all likelihood its just a standard procedure thing. Its retroactive Oct. 8 so he can be taken off at any time, there may be an insurance benefit or something to having him on the IR, and it saves them a step if they do have to call someone up on an emergency basis later.

Sounds like some of you just need players to complain about. Thought it was a good game. Seeing improvement from McNabb and AA with a decent 1st game. Good not to be an Oilers fan.

With an assist to the Oiler defender's lack of gap control. Holy schmoly... stay with your man!

rofl. And the sad thing is even if he didn't wire that shot the OTHER d-man was so mesmerized he may have been able to get a pass to carter too. No trust = bad defense.

Hey guys,

Haven't logged in in awhile. I usually lurk the GDT's or PGT's. Did the number of LA Kings fans that post drop off considerably, or do they only pick up in popularity later on in the season (playoffs, etc.)? By the time we were on page 10 of our first thread last night, the Oilers, who have a terrible team and will most likely will have a season to forget, were moving on to their second.

I know they have a great legacy and rabid fanbase, but we just won 2 cups in the last 3 years! Where are all our fans? :(

Honestly by the end of the summer it dried up around here. Lots of people had their dreams fulfilled and left. Others had nothing to complain about. mostly, it seems, it's a cup hangover for posters as well. Plenty to discuss, not much to debate yet. Wait for the annual late December/early January collapse :P

Agreed. He's looked more comfortable than Muzzin did initially. He's still unsure if he should make a big hit or not, but that may come in time. He's also still learning where Drew is on the ice. It will be interesting to see if McNabb sits in the press box for long lengths of time when Muzzin gets back or if he will take some of Regehr's ice time.

Agreed, all I think of is Muzzin. I will say that McNabb is more decisive defensively and with the first pass. He gets caught pinching and chasing the hit, and his footspeed right now is too slow to compensate, so unless he can beef up his skating, he's going to have to use his smarts for positioning. That's not a complaint, just an observation. Guy looks really good considering he's eating big Doughty minutes on a new team 4 games in. Could be a LOT worse. I'm sure he'll get some seats in the press box but not as like a punishment, more as education.

Move the kids in with Carter. MOAR CHEMISTRY.

I picture these guys showing up with sleeping bags.

Pearson at least was out there on it last night in front of the net. His second goal was a PP goal. Hopefully that's a sign of things to come because our second PP could be DEADLY with those guys manning it.

Watching the game without feeling the need to vent angrily ;)

I mean, yeah the Oilers forum has a lot of posts in the GDT, but most most of them are not even about the game. 1/2 of them are just about how horrible their team is in general, another 1/3rd of them are hilarious gif's of despair, and the sliver leftover are split between face-palming bad plays by their team and lamenting Kings goals. The simple fact is that people love to complain, and sports forums are the most popular place to do it. Less to complain about means less posting.

I disagree there are a lot of things that you can debate just no one is in that mode yet. who should play the pp ? where do we put richards ? who comes out when muffin is ready ?

I guess I'm saying it's hard to debate those things after two convincing wins. Just as it was difficult to debate them after an all-around suckfest loss.

We're also having a slow start just like the team did and will be in playoff mode when they are :P

Oh i understand that our board discusses failure more then success its sorta the king way cause we are more used to discussing failure then success. Its the sorta a cultural thing that i hope changes with more winning. However this wasn't a game where every thing we did click. We still need more improvements imo

Nothing much to discuss at this point. The Kings have a lineup that is pretty much set in stone and no more debates on whether player x should be playing with player z or stuff like that. And the Kings haven't really played a sexy team, a conference or cup contender yet. The next two games should bring more discussion.

But other than that, it's a GDT, there are always going to be people going off on individual players, even one of the 5-8 best in the world in Kopi and ofcourse the Kings have yet to commit a penalty in the eyes of the refs suck crowd. I've been on this site for about 14 years (before hfboards itself existed) and those two things have never and will never change.

Huh, I thought McNabb had a good game last night and has gotten better every game he's played.

I have thought so, too. First night he kept putting himself out of position (on both sides of the puck -- DUDE! your Norris Trophy candidate partner is looking for an outlet!), but he's been steadier since.

I'm just lazy and a bit cup hangover to post more often here.

I thought the Kings won a winnable game and weren't tested too much. I also thought the team is still searching for the right timing - there were still some rushes where the boys were fighting the puck etc.

Love what the kids Pearson, Toffoli, Jones have shown thus far...

On Toffoli's goal...

Other D man on the play was Nail Yakupov... thought he did a good job back checking getting to the front of the crease.... probably should have started to slide over to tie up Carter more, but had no idea Hunt was going to blow the coverage so bad. I mean how do you defend that as Yak... you have no clue what your D man is doing....

lack of PP effectiveness is my only beef. they need to get this working, because it will be the deciding factor against the top teams.

i guess im against the grain when it comes to TT and TP. i would like to see Sutter work on having a 1A and 1B type mentality with the PP units. keep TT and TP, with Carter as a forward unit. then play Kopitar, JW and DB/Richards as the other unit. there is chemistry already there with those forward lines. most importantly, i think it spreads out the talent on to two very effective PP units that will overwhelm a PK.

essentially it comes down to which PP unit then does the opposing coach want to put his top unit out against. the same situation they face now, play Kopitar's line or the 70's line?

Not a lot to talk about when you mug the Oilers 6-1.
