Wtf are these lines?

Even the intern that makes these probably feels bad about it.

Bunting and Garland are just missing Jenik between them.

It is nice to see some of the young pups getting a chance to play in the big leagues. Bunting did well last game so why not experiment? It might show BA what corpses he can trade at the deadline if we have replacement parts within the organization.

They are only in the running for the 4th spot because St Louis has had the injury bug. Playoff Vegas would absolutely body this roster, same as the Avalanche. They simply cannot handle physical teams with swagger.

Tocchet should have been summarily dismissed with Housley last summer, but due to COVID uncertainty and a new GM wanting to 'assess', he wasn't. Now his team has once again lost more games than they've won. Without a couple lame comebacks versus the Ducks, he might not even have the job right now.

This roster is approaching middle age, so they aren't going to be trash tier ala Buffalo. But they aren't good enough to get over the hump either, which means you're basically dead in the water in the salary cap era.

I don't really envy BA's job right now given pretty much everything except Garland has gone tits up. But this summer will force change upon the organization. Standing pat won't be an option again.

Thx for posting this -- 100% agree with paragraphs 2, 4 with what you said and fwiw para 3 seems like it makes sense too, haven't had time to think about it but what you said seems like it makes sense. Re: first paragraph, what I saw from many years of fandom (incl last year) and the few games this year is that the Avs continue to dominate us down low and Tocchet never made / is incapable of making adjustments. I know that you and I both agree that Tocchet doesn't make adjustments but does that idea fit with what you've seen also? In other words it may not be 100% a body issue, it may be a Tocchet issue which is my personal opinion, curious to hear your (and other) thoughts on this.

From what I know re: STL (which is only from the fantasy league apologies everyone but thx @RABBIT ), Binnington has so far had a terrible year. Which of course is not the only reason that STL is a borderline playoff team rather a division leading team with COL, VGK -- but it certainly doesn't help given STL doesn't really have a good backup goalie (like Fleury, Raanta, Halak etc).

But I guess the question / statement is -- standings-wise we are a borderline playoff team.

At this point (and all of you have watched the games), do we have hope of being a cup contender with the current roster or is it necessary that we blow up the team? That's what I'm curious about if you're ok indulging my random thoughts.

Appreciate the assist everyone, here to learn right now. Thanks!

I really don't need to see Hayden fight again. Armstrong needs to take another swing at addressing the toughness of the team this offseason.

I know that you and I both agree that Tocchet doesn't make adjustments but does that idea fit with what you've seen also?

Tocchet forbids them from using the middle of the ice. On the breakout, the wingers will literally stand at the opposing blueline and wait for a pass. They are then supposed to either chip it in or bump it back to the charging center/other winger, depending on the read. The Avs play their D high and simply dive on these stationary wingers, eliminating the Coyotes breakout. The Coyotes are either told or not coached to skate the puck up the ice any other way. So you'll see lots of slapping the puck up and down the boards but not much else.

They basically play for turnovers. It doesn't work against a team that can break out without turning the puck over aka literally anyone who can skate. The Avs are the best 5v5 team in the league and really expose this lack of tactical acumen on Tocchet's part. Last year, it became a meme that they couldn't score unless it was off a turnover or a bad play. As a team, the Coyotes must have the lowest ozone time in the league 5v5 the last few years. They certainly are bottom 3 in offense since Tocchet took over.

Tocchet is trying to do a really bad imitation of a system that works for Crosby and Malkin.

At this point (and all of you have watched the games), do we have hope of being a cup contender with the current roster or is it necessary that we blow up the team? That's what I'm curious about if you're ok indulging my random thoughts.

You generally need a 1D and 1C that are both under 25 to have a window. The Coyotes only have one of those things. You also need waves of cheap ELC talent to replace your cap losses to sustain that core, which the Coyotes also don't have. I personally would regroup around Chychrun, Keller, and Dvorak. But I'm not BA with an owner (who may or may not understand the league yet) to please.

OEL was already coming into the zone awaiting Keller to throw it down low...no way he could have known it was a drop pass and he was stuck. The one bad play he did make was being casual with the loose puck, that should have been a much faster clear to the half wall.
