Here's a hot take: the best the Sharks looked line-up wise was when Goodrow was injured. Warso stopped galaxy braining his lines, and what he created worked. The Granlund-Smith pairing worked (they need a good F1, Kovalenko would work here). Macklin and Eklund were paired up (give them Zetterlund or Toffoli as a scorer) and the third line anchored by Wennberg and one of Zetterlund/Toffoli (+Kunin, for example) takes the hard matchups and gets caved. Every time Goodrow is healthy, Warso puts him on a line where he doesn't belong and it has a domino effect of making multiple guys look worse.

It's one game, and with the season almost half over, we are on the bottom three in points percentage, essentially tied with the other two.

I do not understand why people keep overreacting over individual games when we have consistently been in the absolute bottom group by points percentage all year.

If they’re ready to make line changes, I’d be fine with a setup like:

Eklund-Celebrini-Kovalenko
Zetterlund-Wennberg-Toffoli
Kunin-Granlund-Smith
Grundstrom-Sturm-Dellandrea

It won’t win them many games but we can see if Smith can find his game.

True, but he got back and they did get settled in the D zone. Mcdavid and Draisaitl just made a really good play.
they actually had that play diagnosed, arguably it was celebrini getting his stick on the puck that changed up its speed and asky had slid a bit too far by the time it reached him. that's twice tonight he actually beat the puck across but had made too aggressive of a move and let the puck in. that seems like a learning experience.

I like the pair system, Eklund - Celebrini, Wennberg - Toffoli and Granlund - Smith have worked together well.

Celebrini isn’t going to be happy to miss the defensive play twice there on that goal but they were gassed.

Saw him lined up for faceoff and thought OT would last 17 seconds. I was one second off.

He finished regulation with a shift that was nearly two minutes long than was right back on the ice.

Don't the Sharks have any other forwards?

But someone fresh would have been able to keep up with McDavid and that group; allowing Celebrini to recover.
One of our big problems so far is that Granlund has been playing poorly lately. They could have put Granlund or Wennberg out there to start - Wenny to try to win the face-off - but we really don't have 3 players that can reasonably match up with McD, Drai, and Bouchard, which when you think about it, is not that surprising.

I agree Celebrini looked gassed and was taking long shifts all night, but to his credit he did win possession on the face-off, he just decided to try to do it all himself rather than maintaining possession.

We have guys who play the forward position.....

We should have put our super elite penalty killer Barclay Goodrow out there to intimidate the other team with his amazing veteran leadership.

I'd like to see something else.
1st line (Kunin--Celebrini--Kovalenko)--(Kunin has speed & shoots a lot while Tafoli slow and likes pick his shot. Thus, not producing too many goals as suppose to someone like Kunin who will shoot 1st ask later instinct . He'll be the finisher on the 1st line and add some sand paper to that line.
2nd line (Grandlund, Smith, Taffoli) Taffoli would be the finisher here. I'd prefer Smith gets more ice time for his development then the Vets. Right now Smith is playing on the 4th line.
3rd Line (Zetterlund, Eklund, Wennberg) Zetterlund / Eklund would share the finisher job. Although Wennberg has a hell of a shot, but he doesn't shoot as much as I want him to shoot.
4th Line Dellandrea-Goodrow/Gundstrom-Sturm/Kostin.

Offense:
Kunin--Celebrini--Kovalenko
Grandlund, Smith, Taffoli
Zetterlund, Eklund, Wennberg
Dellandrea-Goodrow/Gundstrom-Sturm/Kostin.

Defense:
Farraro-Liljegren
Walman--Ceci
Thurn/Muk--Rutta

Goalie: Askarov & Vteck. Send Gorgive to the AHL or cut him.

The Oilers game gave us all to see what the near future is going to look like if Askarov is in net but he will need much better Defensemen around him.

If this is an attempt to replicate TMac's panic time line blender, nicely done

So Toffoli, who is leading the Sharks in goals, isn’t scoring enough?

Kunin has been great on the third line. Leave him there.

Rumour is that Warsofsky was putting Goodrow out there and Celebrini said ‘f*** that’.

  • Recent performance
Toffoli has scored three goals in five games to start December, but has only had one assist in his last nine games. Plus, it frustrating to see when Macklin or Kovenko sent Toffoli a perfect pass he elected not to shoot. This happened more than one time. Kunin would be better on the 1st line if Toffoli elects not to shoot.
  • I know there are many in here who don't like Kunin because Sheng's podcast and that's fine, but he has the hot hand right now why not move him to the 1st line. He's earned it!

I'm pretty sure that bagging on Kunin here is independent of Sheng's podcast. In fact I would not be surprised if, since both members of that podcast to read/post on this forum, their tendency to take swipes at him is at least in part informed by how frequently it happens here.

To be totally fair, the TMac blender is really just a refurbished Ron Wilson blender that he found in a cupboard in the coach's office and he stuck a sticker with his face on it over top of the Wilson's mug.
