GDT: Game 35: Sharks vs. Avalanche 7:30pm NBCSCA

Georgiev got this game because it was the first game against his old team. Call it a professional courtesy, but I really don't think it's worth getting upset about. He's not good, hasn't played well, and once Vanacek is healthy, he'll likely be waived to play in the AHL in Askarov's place. Maybe Speer can sew him into a silk purse of a goalie, probably not. We can let him walk and the Kraken will pick him up to be better than Grubauer or something.

He cost us the game tonight, and that's whatever. If he costs us the game against Edmonton, maybe then we can start spouting conspiracy theories.

The funny this is neither of the bad goals were those situations. Just quick transitions. The book is out on Georgiev. Has been for a while. He goes down early. Glove high and it's almost a cheat code against him.
I wish he'd gone down early on the first goal

Georgiev has a lot of reasons why he might not be salvageable though. He's a little on the small side for what NHL goalies are these days and with his attitude, you wonder how coachable he is. But it's up to him whether he wants to be playing in the NHL or the KHL next season.
I really don't think it will be up to him. I think his play and his reputation will leave him no option except the KHL. He's already calling out his teammates and he's been here a week. What's he gonna be like in March if he's still on the team and spouting a .820 save percentage?

I wish he'd gone down early on the first goal
If he starts against Edmonton Askarov is gonna ask for a trade.

I think we’ve taken enough losses for the tank now.

Not even close. Nashville, Chicago and Buffalo are truly terrible teams this season. Sharks can end up drafting 5th-6th overall and missing out on all the higher tier prospects that would instantly be your 2nd best player.
I meant in the short term. We’ve caught up to them in terms of win % for the most part now. A win or two wouldn’t hurt across 4 games. But our schedule is pretty tough for the rest of December. Could see us going like 2-3 at best. 1-4 or 1-3-1 is my prediction.

Yeah, but you have to let him play to show he's actually better or nobody is gonna bite on that
I’m just saying let Speer work with Garbageiev for like 2-3 weeks before starting him again, if he could just get his fundamentals straight Garbageiev would be playable and most importantly tradable

Thrun coming on 100 games and still moves too slowly. If you can't make smart decisions, at least make fast ones...

He'll be off the team by then playing like that. Just be patient.

Lol. I missed it. Who did he call out already?

Sharks set the NHL record for best losers in history! That's so perfect! they outplay (or at least toe to toe) with the best teams in the league, but still lose in regulation. I get the whole "you are your recrd" argument, but I don't buy it in this case. 4 out of the last 5 games the sharks had 3rd period leads against carolina, utah, winnipeg, and Colorado. That's impressive, and if they had solid goaltending and just a guy or two more, theyd be all set!

And yet, in all three of those games, we were wildly out-chanced.

While we gave up leads or ties, we're still outmatched most of the time. The system and compete that Warsofsky has installed is great and it makes me far less concerned about a "culture of losing." But we are nowhere near contenders. If we pull out of the rebuild too quickly we'll end up in the middle.

I predicted 10 points from December and we're sitting at 4 with 5 games left. We could go 3-2 but it looks like that might be hard.

What's that saying about horseshoes and hand grenades? The teams above us in the standings also beat or almost beat good teams on occasion. I like our rebuild better than just about any team, and I love the system and effort, but no, we are not 1-2 players away. We are 1-2 elite players and another 1-2 solid players away, plus the development of the players in the room.

We might be able to push for a wildcard next year IF, and only IF, Grier makes miracles in the FA market, Smith steps way, way up, Asky plays like a top 10 goalie, Eklund gets closer to PPG, Walman doesn't regress, Mukh plays better than Thrun and Ferraro, we get a surprise from a D prospect who beats out Thrun/Ferraro, AND we add another very solid top 4 D in FA/trade, AND Celebrini takes a step to 1.1-1.2ppg plus 2-way next year.

But my prediction is we are sniffing wild card all next year but aren't actually that close in the end, finishing 10-15 worst. Would be awesome - means that Celebrini is the Truth and Smith is maturing. Still on track to try to make playoffs as early as 2027 and no earlier.

Maybe it was my insane expectations for Celebrini but he looked a little tired in the 3rd. It looked like he gave up on a few of his back checks and d zone coverages.

Btw this is completely normal for any player especially an 18 year old playing over 20 minutes a night. It just shows how good he is and how committed to D he is that it was noticeable when he had an off night.
