Goodrow can be trusted defensively against other teams’ top six forwards and Kunin can’t.
He can be trusted in the sense that that's what his reputation around the league may be but in terms of actual results, no he can't and neither can Kunin. If he could be, the Rangers wouldn't have waived him.

I just hope the game isn't a blow out. Jets have come back to earth lately so maybe it will be a good game, and then you might have some motivation after the Utah game.

Yeah, reputation-wise, I've always seen Kunin as more of a low-IQ, high-effort player with some actual scoring ability (this was at its worst last year when he wasn't 100% after the knee surgery, but this year it's been less of an issue than ever, for which he deserves some credit), whereas Goodrow's been high-effort plus decent hockey IQ but not much actual skill.

Now that Goodrow's physical, tough game has taken its toll on his body, the effort and IQ aren't helping him so much and sadly he's not the player he used to be. And when you've got someone like that who's also low skill, it's not going to be a pretty sight.
