GDT: Game 34: Red Wings vs blues 7:00 pm et 12/23/24

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
The tank is about to kick into high gear. Once this homestand is over and we flip the calendar, the Wings will most likely be dead last in the east.

Question for the group, if Nashville called up and offered all 3 of the first round picks they own for this upcoming draft, for Larkin, would you take it?

No lottery protection on the Nashville pick is required.
yes

Lalonde should've cleaned out his office last spring.

This is 100% on Yzerman...We're well underway of another dismal season...Why bother addressing it now when it should've been handled months ago.
Well, whoah.

Last season was not "dismal". Two stretches were dismal, but the overall season was fun and surprising and uplifting.

I think I predicted 93 points this season and still just missing playoffs. Others said 83 and out.

So this season is a disappointment for sure, but until now, incremental improvements every year, remember.

No. Larks is my touchstone to the past teams, the only player I've watched come up from rookie, and the heart and soul of my fandom these days.

I understand those that are against it for off ice reasons. However, this is going to be Yzerman’s last coaching change, I don’t see him leaving the best option out there assuming he is willing to come to the Wings.

I do see the symmetry in adding a trash human to go with the trash patch. Might as well go all in and hire Richard Gnida as Zamboni driver.

Larkin for 3 first round picks including an unprotected Nashville 1st? You’d be completely insane to not accept that. Nashville wouldn’t offer their 1st for Raymond or Seider.

In that hypothetical we could come out of the draft with Hagens and Martone. That would be insane.

Count me in for the opposite. Don’t want to see that low character as****e anywhere near our team.

Plus, why even go there when Gallant is available, who would be a huge upgrade over Lalonde, too.
If you don't approve of Coach Q - okay then - but what about guys like Kane who was on that team and had some interesting off ice experiences?

As for Gallant - sign me up! The only knock on him from what I've read is that he's not much of a Xs & Os type but more of a motivator.

No hesitation

I'm watching the Canucks San Jose game, mostly just to hear Kenny call the game.

Canucks in the old school sweaters are nice too

Gallant burns himself out in a room in two to three years. That is basically when our window opens you hope in terms of what they are building.

I think this is Yzerman’s last hire is a part of why I think Coach Q will get a serious look. Question for you guys/gals, do you not think Scottie Bowman knew about what was happening too? Get you can say it in a different context as an advisor that just hears everything, but you don’t think Stan told him…

Some of you deserve this, enjoy more drafting for years.

Who's walking into the HOF this year as a prospect, Finnie? Prolyl. He's the next prospect to leach on for a month or two that no one watches but see's his stats.

Generally speaking, I have a problem with low character/moral people on my team, because I'm really bad at ignoring my own knowledge. If I know, I know, and I cannot tell myself something different.

And if I know, that the player (coach, GM, TV guy, whatever) is a bad person in my book, I cannot root/cheer for them. Or at least not to the fullest extent.

Ofc, it depends on what actually happened and to what extent. For example, the signing of Todd Bertuzzi was absolute trash and should've never happened. But for Tyler, while I wasn't against him leaving (due to his stance regarding the whole vaccination story, which I didn't like at all), we're talking completely different tiers here.

Regarding Kane, problem is, I don't know what he knew or didn't. Makes it impossible to judge. I actually don't think the players knew that there was sexual abuse, and I also don't know how "functional" Beach was. They can only ask themselves if they realized anything "off" about the guy, and if they did anything about it.

But from what I read about the case, I don't believe Q didn't know. And that makes him a no-go. Babcock is in the same category, for example.

My problem with Kane - besides him floating around, not defending, not giving 100% effort, always looking like some snob in a 5-star restaurant waiting for the waitress - is that the guy has something weird about him, whenever he gets interviewed. Like the smile is fake, I don't know. Just triggers me all the time, always thinking "ok - I don't like that guy".

Q and Kane are both scummy. Its been reported that players harassed Beach with gay slurs during practices and such. Kane knew enough for me to conclude he either gave some shit to Beach himself or didn't care enough to stop other players from doing it or to try to find out what was going on. I was disgusted when team USA started making him their captain and have been disgusted everytime I've seen him wearing the Wings sweater sweater. I felt the same about Todd Bertuzzi, though to a lesser extent. Hiring Q would be my breaking point, he clearly knew plenty to raise alarms and chose to ignore it.

The team has no identity whatsoever...

I said 10 games into the season..

They're not fast, skilled, or big

They're not experienced or youthful

They don't out work you, they don't forecheck relentlessly, it's not puck possession nor counterstrike

They're not resilent

The locker room must be an absolute disaster..

The buck stops at the top and it's time he takes some ownership of the issues and actively addresses them

Ok, then just add me to the „waive the guy and play the kids“ team. Would make sense for his 5on5 play alone, but with these allegations.. disgusting..

Kane still has value, Yzerman's just gonna have to ask where he'd like to go. Kane has to decide is end career legacy. Winning one more cup with another team after the hip surgery would be another jewel in his HOF career crown.

A good team like the Dallas Stars could really use him to upgrade their Power Play, which is pretty average right now on a playoff/cup squad.
