This. Unfortunately the instigator rule gives guys like Emelin free range to target rival teams top players (Pastrnak & Marchand just last night). Having a fighter on the roster will not change anything, as Emelin will refuse to fight to answer for his questionable hits. Emelin is the modern day Ulf Samulesson/ Darius Kasperitis. Back in the days Neely could pummel him and not worry about putting his team down a man with an instigator penalty. It's almost as if the league were actually trying to protect the Otts Averys Emelins of the world. Shame

Did Neely's fists stop Ulf and Darius?

Ulf never obliged Neely. And as a result Bob Sweeney had to epically cross-check Ulfie in the mouth, which today would result in a suspension of 5+ games.

"Sweeney makes Samuelson into a beaver!"

"I lost 7 games and half a mil for this hit." While retweeting a pic of emelins hit on him comparing it to the salo low-bridge

Would not be surprised if Quintal is intimidated by the Montreal media and fan base

Am I the only one who's sick of our guys asking their guys if they want
to fight? Just drop the gloves and start swinging! So the scabs will get
a power play. Big whoop, they're going to get a crapload of them anyways...
Might as well get your money's worth on the way to the box.

There's so many things to consider here and I hear what you are saying. I think next time we play the Habs is were we send a message and send it early don't ask them to go just go. Gotta play the game with in the game and I would love Julien to go on record and call out the refs for protecting that chicken **** hockey. Also would love someone to go after Gallagher for taunting Krug and taunt him back. He picked a fight with Krug knowing damn well Krug just finished a lengthy shift. Cowardly all around.

On the other hand in this particular game getting the 2 points was crucial as we just dropped 2 home games to non playoff teams back to back.

So many things to consider for just one game but thats hockey.

Yes! Sometimes you have to do this even if it does mean a trip to the box. And given how good the Bruins PK is this season it wouldn't be that much of a risk.

This stuff is great. I'm just too old school for today's PC NHL I guess.

Best Ulfie highlight ever was when Kenny Belanger wallpapered the glass with his ugly mug. The crowd not only cheered when it happened, they cheered as he lay unconscious on the ice, and better yet, they booed him when he got to his feet and got helped off!

Never seen a player booed because he was able to get up from an injury before or since. That's how loathed that man was.

The ******* deserved all he got and then some. If I'd been in the stands I probably would have booed Belanger for not making sure Ulfie wouldn't get up for at least a month :rant::rant:

I've told this story before. My dad was suffering through a pretty bad round of chemo for pancreatic cancer when this happened. As weak as he was, he jumped out of his chair, pointed at the screen and yelled "They got Ulfie! They f'in got Ulfie!" Then he sat back and grinned like a madman. It was the first time I'd seen him happy in weeks.

What a great story, your dad sounds like a true Bruins fan

Wasn't scared of Probert!

He should have been

Do you remember the marathon fight with Jay Miller & Probert old Garden down by corner they came out of

Miller just outlasted him and then went to work

Loved how they came out old Garden with Bucyk always last and McKenzie right in front of him

Oh he was. He actually got a reprieve from his cancer (pancreatic cancer is not often that kind) and we went to a bunch of games in 1999-2000. The tough SOB fought it for two years, and was buried with Red Sox and Bruins tickets in his pocket. I can still feel him with me today watching the games. And yes, he would have hated Plate Face Emelin with the heat of 1000 suns.

Wasn't that the story of every Jay Miller fight?

Here is that fight

Gallant who just got fired comes in and tackles Willie Plett

Probert has that 'oh ****' look as Miller goes to work

A doozy. Like this epic where Kordic figures the bout is over and takes late shots with Jay down on the ice, then Jay gets up and starts to feed him. Meanwhile, Donut Don looks on and does nothing as Kordic is punching Millers head into the ice.
