It starts by him accepting his role. He's an elite facilitator and needs embrace it. He's not going to win the rocket, no matter how hard his 175lb brain tries to convince his body that he's going to.
Martin St. Louis didn't disillusion himself into thinking his job was to seek out hat tricks. His job was to pass the puck to Richards and Lecavalier so those guys could do what they do.
Martin St. Louis had multiple 30+ goal seasons and many more where he was pacing for 30 goals. He was not afraid to shoot.
A large part of Marner's role is to generate offense, and that includes shooting. He should shoot the puck if is the best move for him and it can be dangerous. Better than constantly forcing passes like the first 4 years of his career. Shooting is going to open up more passing lanes for him.
He just shouldn't be so narrow-sighted and stupid where he is constantly thinking about shooting rather than making the best play (i.e. passing to Matthews). If he lacks IQ that much, then he is not a top line player in the NHL.
