I don't think I've noticed Vesey very much if at all throughout the games so far. I don't think he's going to last in that role.

I'm in the minority, I don't mind Thornton in his role, even if he's not who he was. He was ok that period.

An NHL player scoring a goal while playing alongside top tier players isn’t a cause for celebration. How he affects his line mates’ play has been on and off. It’s logical to criticize this given the success previous line combos have had.

Of all the problems the Leafs have had so far, I'd say Thornton ranks quite close to the bottom.

Leafs look pretty good in the first period. I just wish this team hit more. You can't win games regularly by being so soft.
It's weird. Still the fly-bys and no-hitters, pretty much same as last year. Yep, only the faces have changed...

Wow Anthony Stewart used to be a chiselled beast, the lack of open gyms has not been good for him, he's gotta start saying no to seconds of dessert

Marner's play was the best news of that period. These lines are still ridiculous, Hyman is being wasted in that spot, Mikheyev is adding nothing.
I think Mikheyek-Kerfoot-Hyman is a decent line, and I don't want to be a 2 line team. I'm fine with the experiment a little longer. Kerfoot and Hyman both already have a goal after 2 games, so it's not doing too badly imo.

Mik has the skills and work ethic but his IQ isn't there right now. He is holding the puck to long, and trying to bulldoze to the net in an attempt to do everything by himself. He needs to settle down a bit and let the play come to him naturally.

Soup-Tavares-Nylander
Robertson-Kerfoot-Hyman

Thorton's goal buys him one more game on the 1st line.

To blame Joe Thornton as the reason for the lack of scuccess of Marner and Matthews so far is ridiculous. Even if their chemistry isn’t there yet (and really it’s too early to judge), there’s 22 million reasons why Matthews and Marner need to be better, and I’m sure they’ll figure that out soon, they better

I'm near convinced that this is about tanking his numbers so that he can't ask for 4 million dollars this off season.
If we don't find room to give him $4m another smart team will and I'd hate to see him go to Boston or the Sens or some other close rival team

I always find Bieksa a lot more well-spoken than i would expect. He has some nice charisma and is a good member of the panel imo

He is so arrogant I want to punch him in the face the way he says things half the time. But he's entertaining.

I think Thornton and Simmonds are good additions... but Spezza, Vesey, Barabanov, Mikheyev is a big selection of players who are purely offensive players that bring no other intangibles. Would Anderson, Robertson bringing their energy every single night and youthful enthusiasm be more effective for the team? Maybe keep one (Mikheyev) but I don't know if I agree with such a big group of reclamation type projects.

In a shortened season, when your top line isn’t contributing and is not generating quality chances against the team that ranked last in goals against, it becomes a problem, cap hits notwithstanding.
