That was a real take charge performance by Kaskisuo. For a guy who had not played in weeks, that's real promising. I wish we had him a month ago.
Kaskisuo looks like one of those wild card goalies to me. He certainly has the AHL and Euro League pedigree. If he plays well and Habs trade Allen. Could be a call up if goalie injured.

Arbs should be up here, this is just silly keeping him there. Harris can take a hike any time
Really? I thought Harris and Struble were our best defensive pairing against the Hurricanes. While Xhekaj continued to be exposed in the defensive zone against AHL competition.

Kaskisuo Has a YouTube channel documenting his life as a pro goalie. It’s a really interesting watch from time to time. Seems like a really good guy who lives and breathes hockey

Agreed, watched one video where he mentions he’s weighing options, had an ECHL offer, another one in Europe but seemingly he was waiting for an AHL offer (and then announces he signed with Laval).

He also said that he has circled the date for the next game vs Marlies (his previous AHL team).

Shawn is tough as any guys I know. Some probably just underestimate him because of his height but I never saw him lost a fight
He has a pretty sizable fight card, you wouldn't think that from just looking at the guy  He certainly had no fear of big Arber last night, he made it look like just another day at the office.

Yeah towards the end it seems like he was just smirking at Arber.

Not sure why he had to be signed

He was signed to be a long term piece in Laval with the outside chance of him taking big steps like RHP did. He is great for the culture and you need players like him to provide some stability and continuity to create a strong developmental environment where hard work and professionalism are cultivated. He won't be there forever as he likely ends up in Europe but even 3 or four years is a long run in the AHL with a single team.

Yeah towards the end it seems like he was just smirking at Arber.
If he keeps trying to dance with Arber he will get himself hurt. You have to admire the courage and toughness that this kid has but he was flirting with nighty, nighty time there.

Vanilla Harris sucks.

Come on.....Harris is a very good young defender who is caught up in a numbers game. Why throw insults at the kid when he has actually performed well and certainly looks to have a long NHL career ahead of him? Why does everything have to either be great or completely suck to so many people? Why not just say that he is pretty good but you prefer others who you believe to be better? Why even mention him at all and instead talk about the players that you prefer? Why is it that people who never provide context prefer to insert demeaning nick names in place of nuanced discussion?

Why?

My apologies I thought this was a conversation about Farrell. I actually appreciate Simoneau. He is all heart.

Xhekaj the best defensemen for the Rocket. I don’t like that every plug on the other team wants their shot at him…
Sending one of the top fighters in the NHL down to a league full of talentless goons has serious side effects, one of which you are mentioning. Hughes needs to bring him to a league where tough players can actually play the game.

Simoneau makes Gallagher look fast? Simoneau's skating is much better and plays faster than Gallagher.

Disagree, Simoneau is a terrible skater (as is Gallagher but Gallagher actually has a better stride and generates more speed especially when he was Simoneau's age) Simoneau is obviously very short but he seems to have disproportionately short legs for his size which allows him to have good balance but severely limits his ability to build and maintain speed. Gallagher's humpback style is ugly but he covers more ice than Simoneau.

I feel guilty saying anything negative about such a hard worker and fearless teammate but it is the truth. His skating is really bad.

My apologies I thought this was a conversation about Farrell. I actually appreciate Simoneau. He is all heart.

All good lol

coaching staff is a shit show….no accountability for coaching staff = accountability for players.

if results don’t matter, just tell the fans that!!

Harris is exposed almost every night when he's driven off the puck in the defensive zone, and I don't understand why it's acceptable. When he is on the ice , the odds are we will be trapped in our end. Struble is great BTW. I want Arbs back here badly

Gallagher at 22, okay I can understand that. I don't know if that's what you meant when you said he made Gallagher look fast. My mind went to Gallagher now. And in no world is Gallagher now a better skater than Simoneau.

I feel guilty saying anything negative about such a hard worker and fearless teammate but it is the truth. His skating is really bad.

You shouldn't feel guilty. I'm as big a Simoneau fan as the next guy. And no one will ever question his heart of a bulldog. But it's not like he doesn't have flaws. I disagree with you that his skating is bad. He's no smooth operator out there. But he's not some lug out there who can barely get from point A to point B.

None of our defencemen are faultless. Harris brings above average mobility to our back end which he uses to interdict opposing forwards skating through the neutral zone and attempted passes in defensive zone. Harris’ superior skating ability allows him to transport the puck from our defensive zone and to support our forwards. He’s not a physical player but neither are a host of other smallish defencemen who are currently thriving for other teams in the NHL. Xhekaj, who brings toughness, intimidation and an elite shot still has trouble making the right defensive decisions. And, as can be seen watching Laval’s games, he remains a turnover liability.

I think other teams value Harris higher than many posters here. That appreciation will turn Harris into a valuable trading chip this year or the next.
