This was the difference right here. Lack outdueled Ward - something Luongo hasn't been able to do very much this season.

I still can't believe Henrik Sedin is 11th in the NHL in points, considering he's a playmaker on a line with Burrows and his zero goals. Henrik is easily this teams best player IMO. Nobody else even in the running.

Concur. He is beginning to really separate himself from his brother.

A game where the supporting cast stood out and sure enough...we were able to score 3 goals! Can they sustain any sort of consistency? That's what I want to see. Pretty good performance, their best in a while.

I knew Kassian was out of the lineup, but completely forgot about him mid-game. Really hope the organization takes a long hard look, and sends him to the AHL for a bit.

Still early, but I fear we may have another goalie controversy next year. Lack is positionally sound and moves exceptionally well. Some iffy goals, but that's to be expected with a goaltender playing his first season as a back-up.

Kassian should've been sent to the AHL when we acquired him. That whole "he'll be an impact player for us right away" was a bunch of malarkey. All I ask from Kassian is to bring some physicality every game and skate. I bet torts feels the same way.

Thank God for the pk. Game where neither team could take control. Very disjointed effort all the way around. Lots of missed passes, hacking the puck out of your zone, and wild scrabbles around the net. Maybe one or two good rushes in the whole game.

The Good

Kesler - riding a roller coaster with this player. Looks good , looks bad, looks involved, looks lazy. Had a bee under his bonnet in this game and seems to raise his game when he does.

Burrows - On many shifts carried the Sedin line. Even without scoring was effective player. Maybe made the best save of the game. Work ethic can never be questioned and his shot blocking in this game was excellent

Garrison - continues to be more assertive and getting more push up the ice. Not back on his heels as he was thru much of November

Santoreelli - thought he had very positive game. Lots of excellent work along the boards and showed good speed in getting the puck up through the neutral zone. Very consistent player who never seems to have a bad shift.

Bieksa - nothing spectacular but IMO showed good leadership and needed toughness around the net. Team needs more of Bieksa's attitude

The Bad

Richardson - real bad penalty and having trouble maintaining position in his own end. Outside of pk, play has started to sag. Got some mismatches and he did not look able to contain some of the people he got out against. Teams now seem intent on getting mismatches against Richardson. Hansen was not very strong either but now seems obvious he is playing under duress.

Other Thoughts

Jeyell and Hyde effort by Tanev - great on he pk but had horrible time at the beginning of the second period.

Lack had another solid game. Seemed to give the Canes little to shoot at . Might have been a little better on the second goal. Back up goalie position does not appear to be a problem on the team and maybe Lack should see more games.

Much better effort out of defense - especially from Edler

Sitting Kassian was absolutely required. Tight game and one of Kassain's brain f@rts could well have spelled disaster. Thought Dalphe in the brief time he played showed more focus and a better idea of what he is doing than Kassain has shown. Kassian may be pb material for awhile. Those thinking that Kassain is being scapegoated need to give their head a shake. He's out because of abysmal play that could no longer be tolerated.

Sedins far from their best and uncharateristically mishandled the puck a lot. Good job, however, in killing of the last few minutes.

Something rarely seen - Henrik with a hit. Guess he is done for the month of December as he got his quota:

Honey Badger's grimace of pain but he is tough and returned to action:

So we have played almost twice as many games against good competition as the Kings. That's a promising stat.

Not to mention not all "playoff teams" 25 games into the season are created equal. LA still hasn't had to face CHI, STL, or ANA and has had only 3 games this season against the top 5 Western Conference teams.

Edler was not a trainwreck on the right-side. That is a near miracle. I really would prefer Hamhuis/Tanev get split up. They have booth been horrible more often when paired together. Suffice it to say the minutes are finally catching up to Tanev. He is not ready to play in the top four, though I hope this is only a slight bump in the road.

As per usual this season, Bieksa is the catalyst for our defense. That will never cease to amaze me.

If only there was a way to trade one of Edler or Garrison for a powerplay QB right side dman.

As we have too many expensive top 4 left side dmen, curse you NTC's!

yeah, hard to get excited about this one. beat a chicago, LA, or boston and i'll be impressed

Statements like this are getting tiresome.

Vancouver was able to win games against LA/Chicago/Boston the last two seasons...where did that get them.

Get it through your heads: This is NOT a powerhouse team. Like most decent teams in the league, the majority of their wins will be against lesser teams....it's what separates them from those team.

This team isn't what it used to be and isn't San Jose level right now. Funny thing is they showed they can compete with Chicago/LA/SJ but lost leads in all three ****ing games in the third period....needed their goalie to make a save and he couldn't do it. People can hope this team should ragdoll every team it faces but with parity and a lesser roster get used to close games against good competition.

According to Tortorella:

“Zack’s a project,†Tortorella said. “But we feel he’s worth it. We’re going to spend some time and try to get him straightened out.â€

Hamhuis was gloriously low event and invisible, playing 26 minutes. On for both against, but he was on for half the game.

First goal, Tanev breaks his stick.

Second goal, Hamhuis pinches at the red line and gets caught, Kes loses Staal, Tanev overcompensates instead of clearing the rebound (his main defensive weakness).

I would hope that Gillis is following the Subban situation in Montreal very closely.

Yeah, Canes are only worth 2 points, unlike the 3 points elite teams are worth. We really need to pick up that extra point when we have a chance. :sarcasm:

To be fair though, I do admit I'd like to see them beat a top team, at this point however the post season is my main concern.

Love Juice lately, gettin angry. He's not happy with how things are going and not afraid to mix it up a bit, I like to see that. :handclap:

Chance for a 2 game winning streak!! Yeeahh!

Loving bieksa and sestito right now. Bringing it every night. Good to send a message to Kassian to wake up hopefully he responds.

Sestito is a better power forward than Kassian at this point. That is a bad thing

Yup Sestito is one of our best body checkers! everything Kassian should be doing checking/grit wise, can see why Buffalo kept sending Kass to the AHL.

But just like what Torts has done for Booth hopefully the healthy scratch(es) will light a fire under his *** and get ZK going.

Where was Tanev bad? Maybe on the 2nd goal, after Hamhuis and Kes poor plays. Otherwise stellar. Turned the play around in the neutral zone multiple times including the last 2 minutes.

a win is a win every playoff team has beat up bottom feeder so this is different but why no one comment on other contender beating non-playoff team? better to beat a good team in playoff than regular season which means nothing!

No one is saying this. What I, and others, are saying is that wins like this aren't that impressive. We can't beat playoff teams which suggests that we either won't make the playoffs, or if we do it'll be another quick first round exit like we've been accustomed to for the past two years.

iirc Sharks do have a recent loss against off. But that was an anomaly and should not be counted, please continue.

He's saying we beat the Sharks recently.

Honestly, we deserved to beat Chicago and LA as well. Very frustrating losses in those games. Outlook right now is a lot different if we don't blow those games.

how did they deserve to win when they only scored 1 goal in each of thsoe games?

?

The silver lining and thing that keeps me optimistic in those games vs those elite teams , the canucks outplayed those teams in every game except for the first game of the year vs the sharks. They are in these games and leading in thirds. If they keep competing like that vs those teams, the wins will come. And most importantly come playoff time, the canucks will be a tough team to face because of that work ethic ans aggressiveness they are showing vs top teams.
