Thank God for the pk. Game where neither team could take control. Very disjointed effort all the way around. Lots of missed passes, hacking the puck out of your zone, and wild scrabbles around the net. Maybe one or two good rushes in the whole game.
The Good
Kesler - riding a roller coaster with this player. Looks good , looks bad, looks involved, looks lazy. Had a bee under his bonnet in this game and seems to raise his game when he does.
Burrows - On many shifts carried the Sedin line. Even without scoring was effective player. Maybe made the best save of the game. Work ethic can never be questioned and his shot blocking in this game was excellent
Garrison - continues to be more assertive and getting more push up the ice. Not back on his heels as he was thru much of November
Santoreelli - thought he had very positive game. Lots of excellent work along the boards and showed good speed in getting the puck up through the neutral zone. Very consistent player who never seems to have a bad shift.
Bieksa - nothing spectacular but IMO showed good leadership and needed toughness around the net. Team needs more of Bieksa's attitude
The Bad
Richardson - real bad penalty and having trouble maintaining position in his own end. Outside of pk, play has started to sag. Got some mismatches and he did not look able to contain some of the people he got out against. Teams now seem intent on getting mismatches against Richardson. Hansen was not very strong either but now seems obvious he is playing under duress.
Other Thoughts
Jeyell and Hyde effort by Tanev - great on he pk but had horrible time at the beginning of the second period.
Lack had another solid game. Seemed to give the Canes little to shoot at . Might have been a little better on the second goal. Back up goalie position does not appear to be a problem on the team and maybe Lack should see more games.
Much better effort out of defense - especially from Edler
Sitting Kassian was absolutely required. Tight game and one of Kassain's brain f@rts could well have spelled disaster. Thought Dalphe in the brief time he played showed more focus and a better idea of what he is doing than Kassain has shown. Kassian may be pb material for awhile. Those thinking that Kassain is being scapegoated need to give their head a shake. He's out because of abysmal play that could no longer be tolerated.
Sedins far from their best and uncharateristically mishandled the puck a lot. Good job, however, in killing of the last few minutes.
