some observations from tonight's game.

Pasta - forgettaboutit

McQuaid/Krug Duo was just brutal tonight.

Rask - While this wasn't his best game, in spite of the 3 goals he was still very solid.

Chara - Very good, especially for someone returning from injury.

Spooner - Good game, we need to see more of that from him.

Backes - Excellent game for him, engaged and ready to pay the price .

Schaller - While he's out of his league on the Backes/Krecji line at least he's not totally putrid.

C.Miller - Still struggling, with all his natural talent he gives it all away with very poor hockey IQ.

Blidh - I'll pass.

I like that lineup a lot, I would replace Nash with Beleskey, let Beleskey get his game going on the 4th line see how he does, Nash the extra forward, Hayes traded or waived (sent to AHL).

No doubt, and he'll need it now that he'll be out for 6 weeks or so.

Pasta comes out of the tunnel yelling "Let's go" every shift . I love watching him play.

I thought Spooner was very good tonight too.

Pasta just looks like he is having so much fun out there on the ice...it's great to see

I don't think I've seen someone play with so much JOY - and he's fun to watch, too. His joy spreads into the warmups...he lip syncs along to the music while he stretches.

That OT goal from Pasta was just sick....finally, a win we absolutely deserve. Good to see Chara back, too....with C&C Block Factory eating up tons of minutes, it limits the exposure of the other defensemen. And Spooner not sucking and doing things - I mean, I'm not convinced he didn't played over and above his "normal ability" tonight, but at least it should give him some confidence.

That said, not to be negative, the monkey on Jimmy "Vegas" Hayes' back is slowly growing...

Pasta does what great players do - step it up in crunch time.
I'm loving this kid!!

He plays the game right, and he's such an exciting young talent!
IMO Pasta is untouchable. He is the Bruins future. Please do NOT trade him away!

Only saw the first period, but was impressed by Spooner's game.

Saw the OT winner highlight when I got home. Wow. Pasta is just so good. 15 goals in 21 games. I pegged him at 25 this year - he could easily top 30, even with a few dry spells!

Loved Schaller's goal too. Great pass from Krejci on that one, and great set-up of Pasta for the GWG.

Go Bruins!

The thing is, if Spooner plays like he did today, he sticks in the top 6 and no one is hassling him. But its kinda like he only played like that cos theres a fire lit under his ass which is annoying but ill take it. Hopefully tonight was a turning point in his season and he will start throwing caution to the wind and grab it by the balls. If he gets traded so what, he'll be at C and have a better opportunity, if he doesn't? He gets to play on Krejci's wing for an original 6 franchise that has a bright future on the horizon.

Montreal is now in sight :handclap:

I remember seeing this exact post last year.

Id love to see a "prove it" bridge. 2Yx3.5 or 3Yx4.5.

No. That's the last thing this team needs with the contracts coming up. We need to sign him to a similar contract as Marchand.

There are types of players that you sign long-term and Pastrnak is one of them.

You mean Marchand's second contract right? Like, 4 years at 4.25? Or are you going right to 8 years big money? Id love to lock him up 8 years now for like....6 max if he'd take it, if he wants more then just pay him, if he will settle for less, BONUS.

To be fair we don't have THAT many bad contracts, one of Kmiller and Quaider will be gone this offseason (expansion or trade surely) Chara's cap hit goes down next year too doesn't it? Flip side, Pasta will get a raise, and if they're smart they'd be locking Carlo up long term ASAP so he doesn't run home to Denver. Not to mention future Doughty at BU. Alright im getting ahead of myself, but man, this team is going to be so good in a few years. So good. I think it would also be wise if they could expose Beleskey to expansion, I really like Bels but its bad value. Hayes the same or traded for a water bottle.

Yup..........almost exactly 12 months ago.

Montreal has played very well at home this year but on the road not exactly.

Bruins desperately need to win in Montreal in regulation next Monday night to send a mental message that this is still a rivalry.

It is also borderline absurd that next week is the Bruins last visit to Montreal this season and we play them one more time in Boston on February 12th.

AND how clueless in the NHL for scheduling a Bruins/Montreal game head to head with a Patriots Monday Night Football game??????? The NFL schedule comes out first so there is no excuse.

well judging by the interview, sounds like he realizes all that and am very happy he has responded so well the last few games.

Kid is only 24 and confidence is his number 1 issue...if he plays with confidence we see how good he can be.

People here were going on and on about how even when he was playing good he wasnt all that impressive..like if you go back and read some of the Spooner hate it was crazy haha so I guess I was trying to post some reasonable pro-Spooner stuff to balance some of the negative out cause it just seemed silly.

I personally don't even like Spooner as a player all that much but have watched him a bunch in Providence and very happy to see him doing well again at NHL level. Hope for the best and if bruins do decide to trade him it's for something good because I do think he'll continue to develop into a good 50-60 point player.

I think that 'stereotypical' 2nd line centre is the hardest thing to draft and develop (Bruins hit a home run with Krejci) but (and why I'm glad they took DeBrusk over Barzal) being a 'slight' play-making centre leaves you with one position. Not good enough to be a #1 but not strong enough to be a #3. He needs more games like the last two.I'm cheering for him and his transition to wing - but this is on him now. He has to play like he has lately consistently.

I am curious to see how Pasta will play on Wednesday vs the Capitals . The Bruins always seem to be physically overpowered by Washington . A strong game from Pasta might be the edge we need to at least get a point , glad we got 2 tonight .

As long as it's not the Vikings.
I need better team to cheer for - can't think of a pro sport team more painful to cheer for than the Vikes.

Last one was election night too.

Both times, I'm more looking forward to Bruins, Canadiens.

No, I wasn't talking about our bad contracts now. We need to lock in Pastrnak long term because of all the recent draft picks that are coming up. If we sign Pasta short term/big money, we're going to have a log jam in 3/4 years and won't be able to keep a lot of people.

That's why I'm also against signing/trading for a defenseman that will cost us a lot.
