I gotta say the team is playing noticeably better lately and they could easily have been sitting here with 3 straight wins against NJD, VAN and BOS which would have made for far different discussions.
They aren’t playing bad. They are noticeably better with Kane gone, that’s no surprise because he doesn’t play any defense at all and at this point isn’t fast enough to make up for his lack of strength on the puck. The thing you like to see is the young players all playing well and developing. They have been our best players this season and if we are going to lose at least we are losing but developing the young guys.

Looks lost. Tries really hard but just can't seem to consistently find a groove or an identity.
This is the season in a nutshell, and it's the part I just can't understand. Last year they had ups and downs, but you always knew what they were TRYING to do. This year it's like the Men in Black hit the entire franchise with the neuralizer and they have no idea what the plan is.

How does a team go from almost making the playoffs to looking like a ship without a rudder?

I keep WAITING and WAITING for them to put together a winning streak. Seems I'll be waiting until next year?

They underestimated the value of the players let go. I still can't understand why Walman was traded?

Ok, so I have a question for the group on the disallowed Kasper goal....

So, the rule was changed that your foot doesn't have to be on the ice, as long as you stick it back on the line, you are onside.

So with what Gus did last night is a little different, he as skating east west not north south at the line. The debate was all about his feet, but looking down the line, he clearly is leaning his body across the line, why doesn't that count for being onside? What body parts can hover over the line and which ones cannot?

JT Compher sucks so much and is such a waste of cap space

It's amazing people defend Yzerman with the amount of money we spend on compher, Copp, chiarot, Holl, Petry, gustafsson...even veleno and ras are overpaid for what they do

This roster is loaded with overpaid losers, yet as fans were supposed to watch and expect results
The issue isn't that they are overpaid, the issue is that they are bad.

Not that this really matters, but sometimes NHL stat makers just make no sense to me. Edvinsson finished the game with no hits despite absolutely crunching pasta with a heavy hit behind the net. I often see his stats end with him not having hits but then remembering him really laying the body on guys during the game. Nothing serious, but sometimes I just think NHL stats can be all over the place.

Stats like giveaways, takeaways, and hits are all pretty murky.

Years ago someone compared those stats for players and there was a significant difference depending on which arena they were playing in. A group of players generally average 4 hits a game, for example, but anytime they play in Colorado they get well below average. Stats weren't necessarily skewed towards the home team, some stats keepers were just more generous or stingy in general.

Reading the players we let go I looked up the players we let go about a week ago. Perron, Fabbri, and Sprong were terrible. Only Ghost had a points. He had 19 or something but was minus 5 plus minus playing for Carolina. That’s going to wear thin if they don’t win it all. As for Wallman, I can’t help believe there is more to the story than what we know. His act will wear thin soon also although it won’t matter quite so much in San Jose.

That's a fair assessment, but I would argue the WAY they have lost is where my issue lies. Comically bad PK, loosing late leads, unforced errors heavily impacting the game. It's hard to accept the moral victory on the heels of some aspects of team play.

I'm still salty over this loss, and the lack of officiating in regards to a post whistle cross check. Mind blowing the officials decided, 'hey let's not call the blatant penalty, let's wait for a Red Wing to retaliate because we are not policing the game. And then we can just send both to the locker rooms to "cool off."'

There was a year Robert Svehla led the league in hits. That's when I suspected something fishy about certain stats.

It's my opinion the ref could have called both the grab and the dive to not give either team an advantage on a close call.
