i'd say the lund line shouldn't be a sacred cow. put that 70s together and put smith with granny and zetterlund. zetts is a great f1, better than smith himself or goodrow and granny can drive the line. celebrini gets a skill upgrade with 2 better scorers.
I agree with this, I understand Warso trying to run 3 scoring lines but I think the development of Celebrini and Smith is much more important. Celebrini is operating at a level that is much higher than Smith and Goodrow and his effort and play should be rewarded with linemates that can capitalize on it. Eklund-Celebrini-Toffoli Zetterlund-Granlund-Smith Goodrow/Kunin-Wennberg-Kostin. Also the hopes are Smith can gradually become that #2C and he can be mentored by Granlund, learning from him on that line.

Also I don't know if it's just me but feel Granlund and Celebrini really don't work well together on the PP. You can tell both want to dictate how the PP is operating and want the puck on their stick and make plays/shoot. I think I prefer separating the two on the PP so they can operate different units. PP1 Smith/Walman/Toffoli/Celebrini/Eklund
PP2 Thompson/Liljegren/Granlund/Wennberg/Zetterlund

This is what I personally would want to see with the emphasis that development of the kids should be the #1 priority.

I ended up watching the Thornton stuff after the game

"Ron Wilson and PDB"

Damn, some obvious shade thrown at TMac. I'm guessing he has no love for him, since he very intentionally omitted him when talking about the coaches. Thought that was wild, and quite telling.
wasn't tmac the one that tried to turn him into a shutdown center?

Not sure about that, but there was a season when, in February the Sharks were out of a playoff spot, so TMac shuffled lines and ended up with a third line of Clowe-Thornton-Mitchell and that team went on a hot streak to get into the playoffs. Crazy that there was a time while Joe was still a very good player that the Sharks had an embarrassment of riches to be able to move Thornton to 3C.

I know the legacy of our Sharks greats is checked by the fact of No Cup, but it was a ridiculously fun era.

The whole organization soured on him because of his conduct during his final season. He knew he was gone, so he was completely checked out and actively looking around the league to see where he could land.

Once I finally got home, I had to catch up on both the pregame and the game.

That being said. Who's running the PP? Cuz we need to fire that guy into the f***ing sun. PP being useless with who we are sending out is unacceptable really.

He also didn’t thank Doug Wilson once or mention him at all beyond acknowledging he was the GM who traded for him.

Warsofsky: “We had some puck play issues. We have pucks on our stick in the defensive zone, and we don’t get pucks out, we don’t make a play.”

Also Warsofsky: Continually putting Ferraro in the lineup.

What a day.

Emotional draining but spectacular to be a part of. If only Macklins shot had fallen in, I think we would’ve won. That loss is not because we suck, that’s hockey.

It's a really weird experience watching a game after an experience that long and emotionally taxing, it felt like I needed a nap after the ceremony but instead there was an entire NHL game to be played just an hour later

It's no wonder the team was so sloppy all game, they just had their whole game day routine disrupted, just too bad we had to surrender the lead to that shit bag James Reimer, f*** that guy

Mikael Granlund is playing like a guy who had a concussion 4 days ago, he's not looking very crisp right now

That was Liljegren's worst game as a Shark, he was directly responsible for 2 goals against in a 1 goal loss, uncharacteristicly poor performance from him

Will Smith is a huge drag on Celebrini's effectiveness, the difference between his line's ability is stark when he had Toffoli there instead of Smith in the St Louis game, they need to split those 2 up to let Celebrini thrive and allow Smith to develop independently

I continue to love Jake Walman, he's so much better than any other D on the roster it's insane, there were shifts he shared with Ceci and the 4th line where he managed to be the best defensive player on the ice for us and was even pushing play in a positive direction at the same time, dude is a superhero right now

A lot of fun to reminisce on great stories with Jumbo and the pals, a lot less fun to watch a flat-footed, talent-deficient team let him down on his big night

Getting to see Macklin in person has told me everything I need to know about him.

I also feel like last night, he really tried to take the mantle. He was doing e everything he possibly could to win that game for jumbo.

May as well give the kid the C now. It's already his.

Since he's so similar to Mackinnon, I would take the Avs approach:

Landeskog C, Mackinnon A
Goodrow/Toffoli C, Celebrini A

Results aside, I had an incredible time yesterday. Even I got teary eyed during the ceremony after years of telling myself, "it's just sports who cares." The core guys I grew up watching now finishing their careers is something you never really think about. Jumbo is one of the most incredible human beings through his personality and character. The apartment story that Crankshaft shared... Man.

As for the game, the tank was rockin' like it was the 2010's again. Unfortunately my girlfriend has only been witness to crowds in the last 2 years of like 5,000 in attendance. I told her no sports atmosphere really beats the tank when it's sold-out.

First 30 minutes were incredible. As usual, the wheels started to fall off the longer the game went on. I didn't think Buffalo dominated in a way that the shot counter started to tilt.

What bothered me the most, Ferraro at one point seemed to be getting double-shifted and I wanted to puke. He can't handle a puck and can't even run it around the boards either the correct way or with any juice on it. It constantly leads to sustained zone time for the other team and I'm tried of watching it happening over and over again.

The Sharks PP can absolutely NOT handle a PK unit that applies pressure high in the zone. Buffalo did really well here. PP units seemed lost most of the time because the stick traffic and pressure by Buffalo. I saw a comment about Celebrini thinking way ahead of most players including Smith, and honestly; I agree. However, Smith really does adapt as the game progresses. I still believe Cele and Smith being on a line is the best decision for the foreseeable future. They really need someone not named Goodrow up there though and I will die on that hill.

Agree, I think the kid line experiment has run its course for now. Maybe try it later in the season again. But for now really want to see:

72-71-73
64-2-20 (also happy to swap 73-20)
53-21-23
And whoever

The Goodrow-Celebrini-Smith line had an 82.1 xGF% last night. It's ok to admit Celebrini didn't have his best game without blaming it on Smith.

Smith was generating a lot of extremely high danger scoring chances last night. And you just said Smith was dragging poor Mackling down?
He kills plays in the offensive zone by making ill timed low-percentage passes that he is not yet equipped to capitalize on, he drags Macklin down

These two players are not at the same stage of development, Celebrini is a bonafide NHL player right now, today, at this moment, while Will Smith is a developmental project who the organization is trying to mold into an NHL player, Macklin needs to play with actual NHL caliber linemates to allow him to continue growing, Smith's developmental minutes should be segregated from that process at 5-on-5
