He kills plays in the offensive zone by making ill timed low-percentage passes that he is not yet equipped to capitalize on, he drags Macklin down

These two players are not at the same stage of development, Celebrini is a bonafide NHL player right now, today, at this moment, while Will Smith is a developmental project who the organization is trying to mold into an NHL player, Macklin needs to play with actual NHL caliber linemates to allow him to continue growing, Smith's developmental minutes should be segregated from that process at 5-on-5
I don't know, I guess I just saw it differently, and it just seems weird that he was having good results last night (besides missing wide open nets) at 5v5 with Smith last night and seriously struggling on the PP when Smith wasn't even on the ice.

The power play is massive problem, but I don't know if it's a personnel problem as much as a system problem, they've alternated which unit starts and they are both similarly ineffective

Someone pointed out that they struggle mightily against pressure up high at the point of possession, I think part of the problem is the utter lack of off puck movement, but it isn't helped by the fact that we don't have anyone who can handle the responsibility of playing with possession in the middle of the slot on the PP, the middle of the ice is used strictly as a last pass for a shot on goal, no one can create space by handling the puck in the slot so they just spend 2 minutes passing the puck around the perimeter waiting for the "perfect" shot to open up and more often than not it just becomes a low-percentage look or a turnover

You know who would look good on the PP? Brady Tkachuk.

What would you give up for Brady?

Our 2nd, Musty, and a grab bag of lesser prospects, which won't even come close to the necessary package.

It is straight-up not worth expending our 1st plus multiple good prospects.

The Goodrow-Celebrini-Smith line had an 82.1 xGF% last night. It's ok to admit Celebrini didn't have his best game without blaming it on Smith.
oh it was largely smith's fault that it was xgf and not gf. it's okay to watch the games too.

I dunno I thought Smith had a good game. Kinda surprised by the shade getting thrown at him after this game. Feel like he's been making good passes (especially to and from Celebrini) and working harder on the boards. Also thought he was using his skating off the puck and staying in motion a lot more.

I wouldn't mind trying to swap Wennberg and Goodrow for a game or two though. But I also wouldn't mind breaking up the Lund line in general. They're a good 2nd line but not that consistent so they get feasted on when playing against bigger and stronger 1st lines. We do know they work so it's a nice fallback option.

That play wouldn't work here, he capitalizes on a shot from the point that hit to the net, on the Sharks that hits a shinpad and bounces out to the neutral zone for a shorthanded breakaway

Also, scored on the Habs defense, not impressive
Problem is the team only wants to make cross ice passes. Very few one-timers. Just always looking for the pretty play. Get back to nuts and bolts of grinding down, taking shots from the point and standing in front of the net, and take a beating. Everyone on the PP is playing too “pretty” right now.

Still laughing at the fact Jumbo thanked everyone from randos on the PR staff to Mason Marchment but not Doug Wilson. Legendary status cemented.
