If Jersey blows them out, I suspect Laviolette gets canned.

It won't matter.

Coaches don't matter, with the exception sometimes being short term.

Boston coach has greatest regular season in NHL and gets dumped not too far afterwards.

Coaches don't matter.

Coaches don't matter.
I think Torts can be a game changer with patience above and buy-in below, but he's an exception.

I've pretty much come around on how you feel about coaches. I think it's possible for them to make a difference in a meta that allows for it, but NHL coaches are the most risk-averse people in pro sports.

Torts is the only one left who's gonna say "you play the game I tell you to play or you sit, and I don't care who you are." The rest of them are just going to ride the guys making the money because then it's not their fault when they're looking for their next job.

Same thing with "systems." You're not gonna do anything revolutionary when you're gonna be looking for work next summer.

That's the nature of a job with a 2-3 year life expectancy.

and the 'Tort's method" doesn't really work anyway. 22 years of coaching for 56 playoff wins and 2 trips past the 2nd round.
It takes a village, so that's not all on Torts, but it's not like his method brings about crazy results

You're not wrong. I think he's the last coach left that's a real builder of an identity, but his teams don't win until he's gone, like we did with AV babysitting.

I'm kind of surprised no team has offered him some kind of revamped Director of Hockey Development role where he works alongside a coach but has no say in tactics/strategy, he is responsible for 'team culture' and works closely with players 23 and under to really develop them as 'Torts type ' players

how about not giving a eight year contract with no movement clause to a loser that Ottawa gave up on? my first season by jury is one of the all-time worst in NHL history Ryan Reeves, Brett Howden, Patrick Nemeth trading Buchnevich signing Goudreau signing Mika resigning Lindgren, and I’m probably missing a move or two from that off-season that someone can remind me of that makes it even worse

All of this is part of the organizational rot. Who is going to listen to some "coach" i.e. placeholder who just tells the vets "go out there and make a play...".

"It wasn't my fault" is the Gallant mantra - he was shit but still feels pure as the driven snow.

Our d zone is a mess, our neutral zone is a mess, our o zone is a mess.

It's said that Laviolette came in to the job with ideas of implementing a "left wing lock" system. Well with Panarin, Laffy and Kreider as our LWs so much for that.

When Gorton was fired Dolan popped out of the woodworks and said the playoffs were imperative. New GM Drury dutifully said Yes, boss! and here we are.

Look at the long list of good players that have been moved around the league right under the nose Drury. He has protected this flawed core and given them miles of rope and now they are all entangled, vets and Drury alike.

Drury is in completely over his head. The one positive thing that really stand out about him is that he does have a vision of how a good team plays. It's bizarre how far away his Rangers teams have been to his ideal game.

And for those nixing the idea that you can change things around with a fresh vision. Look at Tampa and Florida, even Colorado. They had a clear idea where they wanted to be and pursued that. Florida worked hard on their game and their roster leading up to the cup win. The Rangers lack that completely. The Rangers are simply rolling along year after year so this is what you get.

As I've said many times before. The NYR mantra is "Oh well, there's always next year". As long as you make the playoffs the rest is noise in NYR land.

It pains me to say, look at the revamp the Leafs did last offseason on their D corps, goaltending and coach. That was accomplished with the contracts of the core four (hurts typing that). So, apparently it can be done.

the boss had to establish that "tough to play against" identity, heh

The good teams have development, scouting, all that, to ensure people coming up play good hockey. That's where the money has to go.

No, I didn't say he was. I just think he's the last of a dying breed.
A breed that should have never died.

Now players can cuddle in the corner, and plot a coaches demise by playing at 75%.

Kreider telling the world his back is f'd sounds to me like he could be going bigger. Like getting the gm shit canned.

Goodrow getting punted ( good move).
Troubas wife being a tangible designer of the

Rangers opening night roster ( bad) .

Shesty holding the franchise hostage, by turning down a mountain of cash. (bad).

Then what we all kinda knew...

Zib loves hockey as much as you being kissed on the lips by your toothless great aunt.

Lindgren got his face broken and in turn his heart. Captain America got thumped by Eddie Munster. ( bad)

K' Andre grooms his eyebrows, and his jersey smells like lemongrass and mint. AFTER the game. ( bad)

Adam Fox's wife is pregnant. See Mika to know that somehow, that experience completely takes away your legs and buries the game of hockey on your list of priorities.

Kudos to all of us who knew this team was ass when their record was 12-4.

We saw what was coming.

Hard to develop the "Torts type" without the "Torts punch" behind it. As many have stated, most coaches today don't have the "my way or the highway" mentality needed to develop a "Torts type".

Strangely that's the one area where Drury looks strong. Who doesn't like Cuylle and Berard etc. It's the country club atmosphere that has to go. I wouldn't blink an eye if any of the A's were moved tomorrow along with the C.

Panarin to his credit hasn't hidden this year either on the ice or from the media, but his style has seeped through the entire core for better and worse. I'm worried about Laffy being (becoming) one of the gliders and non-backcheckers. He was rewarded with his bag of money for cheating on defence to get points.
