We won't know how it shakes out but the decisions the made in the last two drafts can prove to be a dis-as-ter -- passing on elite-tier talent because our existing flawed roster has some small players on it... might as well drink poison. I tried initiating a discussion about this in the Tank thread but it didn't get too far.
Bobrov + early first rounders used on Euros has historically been a poor combo.

What is it that Lapointe does, again?

Yup much of the issue is inherited. The predecessors had no clue how to draft a good balance of talent/size/heart.
Finding these gems is hard enough to begin with but identifyng the potential in sleepers is the key. I can't say we've been very good at that.
I think the predecessors weren't as bad as their reputation in terms of drafting.

Development? That's a whole other story.

Notice that their picks that come in the last few years (where they weren't involved in development) are mostly panning out now. I feel like Timmins got a raw deal here.

They can look all they like but are they willing to pay up what it takes?

Surely, they know that their current roster will not get the job done.

The problem for them is that they don't have a lot to give either.

Well they can't fix everything in two drafts or two years either.. but they've certainly targeted certain guys with size, and others with nastiness.

I can see a pretty clear desire from the front office to build a full on team.. which is why they targeted Reinbacher, why Beck was a selection in R2.. why they went after Florian.. why they think highly of Arber.. why they steered away from Michkov.
Not too long ago they were pilloried for being MOAR size with their moves lol

They really need to get this goalie situation sorted out. Monty and Primeau need to play more. Edmonton has now started winning, so I hope we didn’t miss the boat on a possible deal there.
Early season dramatics.. team that should
Be winning is losing, time to generate clicks and views. There’s no way Edmonton panics that early, gives up important pieces for aging and mostly unproven Montreal goaltenders.. the problem isn’t the goaltenders in Edmonton.

There's a disconnect over there between what they know and how much they're willing to act upon it.

Their best currency is futures and if you have a two-headed monster on board like McDavid and Drai in their primes, you gotta do what it takes. What a lame organization.

It's hard to say development killed decent prospects.
I'll agree it was a deterrent in some cases but we didn't start with the best seeds in most cases. The qualities we seek are a rare find in this day and age.
The types of players I want to see us drafting would be self developers similar to Gallagher for example.
Talent/Size/Heart most players have two of three some only one.
The high end guys are usually obvious like the top three last draft.
It's the next level and role players where the balance becomes critical.

It seems like a week ago since we played a game.
Wasn't it? We've now had two long periods without games.

Should start having bets on what posters will do what.

Bet:
First person to say Slaf is terrible.
First person to say a basic play by slaf shows how elite he can be.
First person to get mad at the cannon
First person to get mad at MSL
Runner's photoshops over/under 3.5, the op doesn't count in this number
Markovknee's likes over/hundred 50.5
Number of mods patrolling the GDT because I could fly off the handle 2.5
Number of non Hab fan mods patrolling this GDT to provide support incase I fly off the handle at 1.5
First poster to get drunk in the GDT on a Wednesday
First poster get high in the GDT - this one might be me depending on the edibles.
Number of players Boss Man Hughes cuts up here. Number is at 18.5 as it's pretty much the whole team and sometimes prospects.

Slaf was right there and did nothing and Pezzetta is scratched soooooo yeah.

6’5” 240 lbs  good one.

AI has determined that the best way to counter CBJ's cannon is via a fight to the finish where the Habs deploy their own cannon with the aid of disfigured players sporting cockamamie jerseys and using a broken field hockey stick.

The cannon might also be used to slow down CBJ's giant Russian. It's the only chance they've got against him.

It’s really not. There are so many examples.

We didn’t have great draft position in most drafts. And where we did we screwed up on development. Not saying scouting was perfect but it was better than given credit for.

Have you noticed how Timmins’ late picks are panning out? It’s not coincidence.

I still can't believe our leading goalscorer only has 6 goals this season. So pathetic. Boeser nearly has triple that amount.

They gotta play like weinies for Celebrini.

Would be nice to suck and still have some talent doing sweet things on the ice, but that's like asking your employer to give you an actual raise instead of a pizza party.
