Bernier wouldn't have been able to stop those shots either. The defenders are the ones who need a wake up call. Doughty, Muzzin, and Voynov were ok, but good God Ellerby, Scuds, and Martinez were atrocious tonight.

Took 3 bad penalties, 2 resulting in goals, and left Quick out to dry multiple times. They need to stop staring at the puck and look at the whole zone. It's terrible. If the offense hadn't gone on a scoring spree the last couple of games, the Kings would be on a 4 game losing streak.

You really can't fix it with different guys though but hopefully Sutter can find a way to get their heads out of their *****.

Bernier wasn't exactly stellar in his last start.
He was about as stellar as Quick was tonight. Neither received much help, but neither went above and beyond to help the team, either.

My analysis of Quick is clearly subjective since I'm basing it on how he looks out there, but I don't think it's hard for anyone to admit that his flopping around in the crease and over committing to plays on one side is occurring much more than it needs to be.

I have more of a problem with Scuds then Quick at the moment. If he keeps his play up then an extension will be a long time coming.

On the other hand maybe he is trying to take on to much burden for the loss of the other 2 defensive vets. Combine that with the pressure of contract talks as this will be his last decent one, maybe the pressure is affecting him.

Regehr would look good or another positive Greene update.

As for Quick, to much talent to keep him down long. He will rebound

Its cumulative. Quick is trying to do too much as he watches the defense unravel around him. It rarely works.

And he gave his team a chance to win tonight. That's all you can do.

To be honest he didn't do anything above average. Usually when you give your team a chance to win is when your defense fails you bail them, he didn't bail them out when the defense screwed up.

Quick hasn't really stood on his head at all this season too. He just needs to get on track but playing him during a tight race where every point matters you need to play the hot goalie which has been bernier. Not saying it was Quicks fault again, just he hasn't been as good as he usually is.

Yeah, Scuds is my biggest concern at the moment as well. With him needing a new contract as well as already being 34, I'm beginning to not feel too comfortable about resigning him. We really need him to turn it around quickly

I'm not down on Quick, but we gotta be like Sutter about this. It's not who you are, what you've accomplished or done in the past. It's what you are currently doing! Quick is not being Quick! It's unfair but he set the bar pretty high for himself. We need him to be an elite Goaltender to win but he's been rather pedestrian. Especially, now that Mitchell and Greene are out.

How would Bernier been able to stop a goal with Jagr firing from the other side of the net? Quick has had bad games, but there was nothing he could do about tonight.

Both goalies need better D. They are not superheroes. I think a lot of people underestimate how good the defense was last year. Quick made spectacular saves but there were always guys around covering the odd men so he could focus on the shooter.

Were 3-1 btw, so its not as glaring as you put it

It IS glaring. Kings are giving up too many goals, win or lose. In the long run that will bite them. Sutter no happy with our D right now according to his post-game presser.

As an aside, why the hell do these reporters and other FSW TV guys keep asking Sutter and the players about the "new look" Stars. Are they aware that the Kings have payrolled employees whose job it is to scout these teams and know their tendencies? Are they aware that nowadays you can record moving pictures and play them back? What stupid questions.

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood. I hate losing to Dallas. Especially when I feel the Kings had the puck posession to win.

We need a temporary replacement for Greene until he gets off the IR...and there's two or three candidates I wouldn't mind seeing go to get him...

All I know is I was annoyed by all the Offense I was hearing (had to listen to the radio) with the lack of scoring, combine it with very few Defensive plays, add on all the non-calls i was reading on GDT and I should have stopped listening sooner...Sucks when there's nothing else to do.
Damn you guys for making games entertaining to stick around with:sarcasm:

I blame your birthday.. We know that's the real reason we lost.

F*@#$ you Ryan ! ;)

 awesome.

Title pretty much says it all.
We had some defensive lapses for sure, and the Stars capitalized on them, but overall we didn't play terrible. We didn't look out of sorts and we got our chances, but the bounces just didn't go our way tonight. I never like losing, but at least it wasn't for a lack of effort or boundless ineptitude.

Well, back to the work of trying to separate themselves from the rest of the pack.

The Kings need to regain their focus for the upcoming games with Calgary and take at least 3 of 4 points from those two games any way they can get them.

Physically I thought the Kings dominated Dallas most of the game, but the mental lapses killed them.

I think he's overcompensating for the defense which eventually makes him look bad when he gets caught. Quick's athleticism allows him to accomplish a lot when his teammates are doing their jobs. When they're not, he's gonna swim out there. I don't think he's playing bad. I think his weaknesses are being exploited though.

Quick has been able to make the kinds of big saves in the past precisely because he's been able to rely on his teammates to keep his crease clean and clear out rebounds. Not every big save results in a face off from smothering the puck. Sometimes it's a toe kick, but if that toe kick goes to a guy flying down the wing with no one covering him, it's gonna be a goal like the one Jagr scored. If a d-man or forward picks him up, that looks like an amazing classic "Quick toe save." Instead, Quick just looks beat.

Sutter has harped on the way their goalies need to control rebounds, so I don't think you can put this all on the defense, especially when Bernier's control is better. Quick looks scrambly and not yet himself even in games where the d has played well.

To the rest of the goalie debate in this thread: I wouldn't put this loss on him, but I also don't think Quick should be immune from criticism. If Sutter asks him to be better, we can too.

Quick's probably going to work his way out of it, but he does have things to work on.
