You missed the point. Carter will be fine for the rest of his current contract. He will actually be younger than Joe Thornton is now. Does Joe look like he's ready to pack it in? How about Hossa? Jeez people. Your career is not over at 30.
The problem with Carter is at 35 he's making 3M, at 36-37 he's making 2M/year. Does he keep playing? At what cost physically? Was he able to save money and is set for the rest of his life? Is 2-3M worth putting yourself through an NHL season for someone that's already won 2 cups?
I wouldn't be shocked if Carter retired before the contract is up. Don't see what 2M each of the last 2 years does for Carter unless he really just wants to play.
I'm not convinced they can't make a run this year.
I'm not saying I think they will, I just don't think it's too far fetched either.
If they get healthy, and build some momentum at the right time, they'll be a tough team to out in a series considering most of the Western Conference is pretty weak. The emergence of Dowd/Forbort, and the play of Seto/Brown makes this team deeper than previously thought.
It's possible. With Dowd/Brown playing well the team just needs to get Kopitar/Gaborik back to really fix the forward group. Maybe one more wing to fill in.
Quick will need to get back and up to speed. He's come back from injuries before.
The D is the only hold up right now. Muzzin/Martinez seem to have been struggling. Wish there was a way to improve things, but there may only be a couple names league wide that would be an upgrade AND available... That doesn't take into account the cost.
That and it concerns me seeing Sutter struggle with the Sharks. He knows what needs to be done from the reverse sweep, but much like the 70's line, we don't always get that from Sutter.
