He said, "Our first games vs pacific teams is now 0-3-1."

Our first game against Anaheim was the season open. How did that go? ;)

So why draw the line at the first 4?

It was worded poorly, and was a bad argument. Straight up. WE beat a Pacific Division team, we beat Dallas too.

No point in leaving out all the other games, just include the entire record against the Pacific Division. Seems simple.

edit* especially since the Anaheim 5-0 win was our 4th game of the season.:shakehead:shakehead

double edit* i think i get his point now, the first time playing a pacific division team, ie,. the 5-0 win was our 2nd time playing the Mighty Ducks. LOL

The Yotes are a decent team when motivated, and coming off a couple bad losses where they blew the lead, you knew they were thinking this was pretty much a must win scenario. Not so for the Canucks.

Saturday, however, expect one hell of a hockey game. From both teams, because the Kings are playing well right now, and you know they'll be fired up to play the Canucks.

Hockey Night In Canada baby! :yo:

Please Canucks don't embarrass us on national television

Obviously some sore of team gathering b/f #canucks skate as all players emerge pretty much at once. No Kesler, no Bieksa on ice.

Interesting. The last time we heard about them having a team meeting was after that 7-1 loss was it not? Then we ripped it up... after another loss to Phoenix. ;)

Do you realize the difference of making a save that you should make late in the 3rd of a 2-1 game versus middle of the 3rd of a 5-3 game? One was a clear back breaker when the team was really coming on and looking like it was going to score and tie it up, and the other was just another goal in an all around horrid game for everyone.

I don't know. Schneider needs to find a way to get on his game. Then again, his PK SV% is at 0.873 while last year it was 0.960 which was clearly due to regress to the mean. It has, and now it looks more and more like last year was a statistical anomaly (I recall this being brought up several times). This years numbers are more realistic and what you'd expect (in terms of PK SV%), and are actually in the same ball park as Rinne and Lundqvist. The only difference between these goalies is their ES SV% where Schneider has also regressed.

The biggest concern though has to be the defense. You simply cannot pay almost $20M for a top 4 core and have them make the kinds of poor mistakes they have been making. Oh yeah, they have NTC's too. Last year these mistaks were masked by outstanding goaltending that just isn't there in some games this year and this is the result. This is definitely a troublesome area where since you can't move the players maybe you have to move the coach?

Offense looks bad too. We don't look dangerous at all. I like the Schroeder like but offensively they aren't producing consistently like a second like in the absence of a real second line. That Kesler line is a complete mess. We played better hockey without Kesler this year to be honest. The Sedin line has been the only offensive threat for us.

All in all I think this game, and this past road trip has exposed our biggest weaknesses. How we respond and how Gillis approaches addressing these weaknesses will determine the outcome of the season.

The Canucks came back from a 2 goal deficit against Chicago with less time left, so it is possible. Agreed though, the 3rd goal was much more of a difference maker.

Schneider has definitely regressed. He's still a young goaltender and will be more prone to ups and downs than a seasoned vet like Luongo, who's numbers are fairly consistent throughout his career. Schneider isn't hot enough right now to consistently bail out mistakes on the D. Luongo was, at least until that Detroit debacle.

As for the forwards, I was holding out hope that for Kesler and Booth, it was simply a matter of shaking off the rust. Now it sounds like Kesler is going to be out again until close to the playoffs. At least he had 5 points in 7 games. Booth needs to step it up, he's pointless in 4. It would be nice if Kassian returned to early season form too, but a lot of that was playing with the Sedins.

So after another loss the Canucks are now

16th G/G
11th in GA/G
10th in 5 on 5 F/A
15th in PP%
19th in PK%
20th in FO%

oh and finally below even the pathetic mark that is .500 when they play any team outside the crappy NW division.

In other words, they pretty much suck.

I don't even want to know what the lines will look like on Saturday...

Daniel - Henrik - Kassian
Raymond - Shroeder - Booth
Higgins - Burrows - Hansen
Weise - Lapierre/Ebbett - ?

Well it's at least a bit of good news in hindsight (seeing how underwhelming he looked AFTER the Dallas game, where he was flying). But yeah, it's really awful/unfortunate for Kesler.

I figured he slowed down when the initial excitement of his return wore off, but that makes sense too.

I would go...

Sedin-Sedin-Kassian
Raymond-Schroeder-Booth
Higgins-Burrows-Hansen
Ebbett-Lappiere-Weise

PP Units:
Sedin-Sedin-Kassian
Edler-Burrows

Raymond-Schroeder-Booth
Ballard-Garrison

PK units:
Anyone but Ebbett

Aye. I always found it a bit shocking he completely fell off the map after such an explosive game. Now we know why his skating was so awful.

This makes sense. Especially the last part. ;)

Burr was doing well at center before Kes came back so I wouldn't be opposed to putting him there again. Gives Kass another chance with the Sedins too.

Raymond/Burrows - Schroeder - Booth
Kassian - Lapierre - Weise

Kassian and Schroeder benched after the first.

Well if Kassian continues to suck, we're going to have to put Burrows back on the first line. It's the only thing this team has got going for itself right now.

The Sedins seem to play more defensively (good practice for the playoffs) and hit more while Kassian is on their line. Plus, they can teach Kassian a thing or two about consistency (hard to take nights off with the Sedins busting their ***es every game.

The only problem with Burrows as a centre was faceoffs.
