In response to Rishaug post game last night he said his traffic game and competitiveness is something he can work on.

After he lets in 4 in 9. In the middle of the playoffs. In his 5th season. In the 3rd consecutive year he’s been pulled due to his poor traffic game and lack of competitiveness. With our better goalie who is loaded with competitive spirit on the bench due to injury. With the ultra competitive Mike Smith as his early protégé to learn how to fight through traffic and be competitive.

It’s utterly mind boggling that the complete bonehead of a goalie coach we are forced to employ does not see this - as every single fan does. Or just maybe, just perhaps Smilin Stu might mention to Blind and Deaf Dustbin that he’d like to shore that area of game up as it’s been 5 years and he’s already partially cost the team 2 cups along with Woodcocks stubborn coaching or lack thereof.

The Oilers have to beat the Stars, the refs, a league worst PK and brutally inconsistent Smilin Stu goaltending forcing them to play a perfect defensive no penalty game in order to even have a chance at winning. It’s almost a zero sum game.

HOWEVER - the Oilers 5v5 dominated the Stars so the path to victory is clear. O penalties and O shots against us from inside our blue line. Achievable maybe.

Game 2 is not quite a must win but it’s damn close. 2-4 Skinner doesn’t figure his shit out until Game 4 and our 6-0 true number one goalie is in a morgue somewhere in Edmonton so we need a yeoman’s effort from all 18 players not named Stuart Skinner to take this one and bring the series back home.

Let’s Go Oilers!!!

He'll be better, they'll play cleaner and I expect a better result coming home.

They did a lot of things very well and were much better 5 on 5.

It was perhaps the best 2 periods 5v5 the Oilers played all season.

And then our garbage PK and Smilin’ Stu took over with his self admitted poor traffic game and near zero competitiveness.

I have faith we win Game 2 because it’s D&D night Friday night and the Oilers are 3-0 when it’s D&D night!

Isn't Ekholm pretty much good to go anyway? Obviously he'll need a few skates but it sounds like he should be ready

But biggest stinker is still the man tending the net.
Remember how media kept pumping up Skinner's post-playoff loss performances? How he was pretty much unbeatable after a loss? lol
Let's see how that turns out in game 2

When he comes in, the HF Board Dr's will still say "arrrhghghg, don't rush him!"

Who cars even if he is rushed, and he plays as a net positive, and it helps them beat Dallas. Got this far without him even if he gets injured again.

SAVE US O-ROD!

YOU'RE OUR ONLY HOPE!

Seriously dude!! Binnington Murray and Ward have done it! You can too!
Rookie-Phenom this shit to a cup win man!!

I'd like to see Arvidsson in for Frederic.

Frederic has been a disappointment and the Stars aren't a physical team by any stretch.
Physicality is different to different people. Dallas are much stronger on the forecheck than anybody we've faced. They bring meaningful physicality pressuring us off pucks on the boards, winning battles etc.

Against Vegas we played two complete games where Vegas were rarely able to get the puck in our zone. Dallas did it more times in one game than Vegas did in multiple games. Not to say I saw Frederic doing much in ownzone or anywhere but Stars are plenty physical.

I just don't see Frederic getting to plays or on the forecheck.

They probably leave him in just for the optics lol. Can't have your big TDL acquisition sit.

I'm not defending him. I didn't see him do much aside from botching a scoring chance and a couple misplays. We even have a 40yr old fighting at end of game. Where's Fistric, I mean Frederic, doing anything in this game?

The optics are bad. Arvid not even playing, HS several playoff games. J Skinner HS continuously, Jones not even in lineup. Walman who's been good gets turnstiled silly by Steele. If thats Booch or Nurse who people pile hate on we'd be hearing it for months.

The good and promising:
-Draisaitl and McDavid seem to be healthier compared to past runs and they are able to score
-The team in general seems to be relatively healthy
-If they hadn't taken these utterly stupid penalties they might would've won game one (which I didn't expect)
-Oilers were better 5v5
-McDavid's line neutralized Hintz/Rantanen while simultaneously dominating offensively
-Pickard and Ekholm could return soon
-6 more games to go and 3 of them at home

The ugly and alarming:
-Special teams: they won last year's series against the Stars and might lose it this year if there are no changes
-The depth that carried them to the WCF didn't exist offensively, it was all McDrai and Bouchard again
-Even if Pickard and Ekholm return, they might be of no help if they are not fully healthy (if at all); the guys on the ice right now will probably have to figure it out by themselves without their help
-Discipline: no stupid (braindead!) penalties because their PP is deadly
-I don't believe Dallas is thoughtless enough to collapse the way LA did once up by 2-0, meaning that there already is a lot of pressure on the Oilers in game 2 (although even if they go back to Edmonton down 0-2, I still believe they can win this, but it'll probably go to 7 and luck will play a major role)
-Skinner
-Dallas didn't show up offensively for 50 minutes and still won this game -> room for improvement as well, which will be troubling. We haven't seen the best of them either

I'm still optimistic, McDrai are rolling.
