Pre-Game Talk: Game 2. The Stuart Skinner Shit Show (with Pole!)

What’s the biggest challenge the Oilers face?

'Helped' is quite generous, given all of the problems I listed, that cost the team Cups the past two years. Every game he shits the bed in puts a toll on the players mentally and physically.

All they need is average goaltending and they'll win a Cup

This Jekyll and Hyde Campbell-esque mental midgetry is not what a Cup contending team is in need of
you're assuming another goalie comes here and doesn't shit their pants in big games like Hellesuck and Blackwood always seem to do
Adin Hill went from 3rd stringer to Cup champ in 2023 to losing to the Oilers this year

We are in a bit of a stew now.

They need to fix the PK fast and get it close to 80%. The kill rate when Skinner plays is 58% and when Pickard plays its 65% so not much difference between each goalie which is clearly a systems/effort level by the PKers. Having a healthy Ekholm will help but we're not winning anything if the PK stays this bad.
Its night and day from last years playoffs 98% something, gave up 3 goals if i remember right.

Pk players out Ceci, Desharnais, Ryan and a injured Ekholm. Ekholm the guy who sticks out, but shouldnt fall apart like last game.

Hellesuck as you call him - better playoff numbers than Skinner this year and career

Blackwood- better number than Skinner this year

Adin Hill- better numbers than Skinner.

lol- love the self owns.

You can’t be serious asking that question. Really?

Successful teams/orgs don’t have “passengers” in key roles. #1 goalie is a key position to a championship team. You want something much more than a passenger in that spot. You want a leader.
name the last time a goalie that won a championship team was a "passenger"...like come on

I’ll take that one time dump in vs the infinite softies Skinner lets in

For sure. But lets not forget that Smith had his fair share of terrible Game 1s as well. Though generally he got himself settled sooner in a series than Skinner has so far. That said, he also didn't have as strong a team in front of him in his games.

2020 vs. Chicago - 5 goals on 23 shots (pulled)
2021 vs Winnipeg - 2 goals on 18 shots
2022 vs Kings - 4 goals on 35 shots
2022 vs Flames - 3 goals on first 10 shots (pulled)
2022 vs Avs - 6 goals on 25 shots (pulled)

Man I take comfort in the certainty that if Stu doesn’t get this job done there will be someone different in that net next year.
What about those of us that were calling for a different starter the last 3yrs. NEVER been a Skinner fan. From is first goof ups, which were soon, I couldn't trust the guy in net. He's just a weak, lazy idiot. Like a poster said only todays modern pads and equipment allows a lazy ass like this to even be in the game. With the old heavy leather pads you had to have strength to move those things. They were heavy. You had to actually be athletic to be a goalie. Sometimes technology ends up making things worse. Lazy dopes like Skinner can pretend to be your goalie tripping over light pads.

Don't forget that the POS Duchene also scored on the powerplay that he embellished on.

Talk about embarrassing the refs. Same thing happened early in the Veg series and they started leaning our way. Glad the Nuge was chirping him on the draw before they scored. Hockey gods will notice!
Hopefully Knob had something to say to the refs on that call. What a weasel

But he did have those fancy pads made special for the outdoor game though. That counts for something, right?

and none of those goalies are still playing

would you rather the better stats or the playing in late may?

talk about not seeing the forrest for the trees.

And none of those goalies have 2 generational superstars in front of him.

My goodness, the glazing of this guy who *checks notes* is 2-4 in the playoffs (while his backup is 6-0) and has similar stats to guys that had Eatons catalogues strapped to their legs in the 80's is truly Bizarro world stuff.

Agreed, and like you said the weaker team and also him being relatively ancient by that time makes a difference as well
