Hm. I thought the first period and a huge chunk of the second period might have been the WORST hockey we've seen from this team in a long time. Surprised to see so much optimism in this thread tonight.

Definitely 2 big points, and they defnitely turned it on after the Islanders scored, which was good to see. Unfortunate that it took them a while to wake up though.

I blame the ice . Once they got used to it , they played good and won fair and square .

Stan Fishler needs to shut the **** up. In what world did they outplay us? Maybe the first half of the 2nd and that's it. Shut up you old ****!

He was getting better about a yr ago , but he's starting his crap again. He was also trying to make Vigneault admit that we were lucky to win this game .

We're 1 pt out of 4th in the conference and 6 pts behind tampa. We're also 1 of only 4 teams with a + team rating in the east now.

Yeah, Tampa might actually be catchable, maybe even Boston if they go on a cold streak, but both require the Rangers to keep winning like they have been lately. Pittsburgh is probably out of reach but as long as the Rangers don't have to play them in the first round, oh well

Thought Klein got caught too far up ice a few times last night, might still be adjusting and getting his positioning in. Once in the defensive zone he's solid and while I didn't watch his every outlet pass, he seemed to be OK at moving the puck once he got it.

e: Corsi still seems like something that can be vastly affected by what kind of zone starts you get, what forward lines you're on the ice with and who you're playing against. I find it hard to pin a single player with a bad corsi rating over a handful of games, and if they really are that bad, you should also be able to see it on the ice IMO

It's so nice to have a functional 4th line that can hit, defend, and pot a goal or two.

Carcillo is a much better player than I thought, Moore looks fantastic of late, and Boyle is Boyle (that's a good thing; a very good thing)

The Rangers beat the Devils and Islanders and now they're winning the Cup. :sarcasm:

The odds are very much against the Rangers winning the cup this year.

Some things to keep in mind however. The Rangers have picked up their goal scoring. They have a pwp which though not exactly lethal is much more dangerous than in the past. They are healthy and they seemed to finally have figured out AV's system. The lines are stable and the players seem to know what their roles are night after night. These are very positive things. After a bad start to the season the Rangers are now a competitive team. Take away the 3-6 start to the season and they're 25-16-3. Legit contenders?--probably not.

Rangers lack a real front line center. Rangers do not have enough size on the wings or grit and the Rangers don't have a legit pwp quarterback. They don't have a legit tough guy.

OTOH the Penguins--arguably the best team in the East have been injury prone all season. Their goaltending and defense is more questionable than ours. Losing Dupuis hurts them a lot. They are beatable. The Bruins to me look more formidable than the Pens going into the playoffs but losing Seidenberg hurts them a lot. The Bruins played more than less without him in last year's playoffs. They ran right over the top of us. The Rangers had no solution for their physical and grinding style. A few things may be different though I don't think it will be enough--Richards looks like he'd be better this time around-the Rangers do have a set 4th line that can play with some physicality--Kreider gives us a legit power forward with speed. The Rangers bottom pairing Klein-Moore will be better than what we had last year. The Rangers would need to stay healthy to having any shot at either of these teams. If either the Bruins or Penguins were banged up with injuries--the Rangers chances get better. The Rangers have not much of a chance but they do have a chance of coming out of the East but they'll need a lot of luck.

Not to rain on the parade, most of the team played well. Stralman and Staal have been dynamite the past few games after a slow stretch, Nash and Stepan have picked it up too. But I'm concerned with Klein's game and I still cringe that the Rangers gave up MDZ for him. Not sure what he was doing on that Isles goal. To make matters worse, he has a -15 Corsi differential over his first few Rangers game while MDZ has a +13 rating with the Predators. That's a pretty brutal start to the trade.

Did anyone see Dreger's report on last night's game? Apparently Cee Lo Green was taunting Islander fans by repeatedly breaking into his own song and saying the Rangers are going to kick the Islanders' *****. Don't like his music but that's pretty funny.

Rangers have SEVEN more ROW wins then the Leafs, but are one point behind them.

The three point game is a joke.

Carcillo has been a very effective 4th line winger for this team. Skates well, hits, has some offensive ability. He's only 28.

We may have picked him up at exactly right time. He's gone through his crazy, trying to make a splash years where he took all kinds of bad penalties that hurt his team in an effort to stir it up. But he could always play. So, now we have a guy who has a reputation as a loose cannon who other teams will try and goad and probably give us PP time because of it who hits, skates, can play, and will drop them if need be. If he stays on the right side of the nasty stuff he is a very good 4th line LW.

Yeah, before the game he comes out starts saying "where the Rangers fans at? Rangers are going to kick the Islanders *****!" etc. Dude got booed off the stage before the game and during the intermission. No one liked him. The crowd liked the Beatles cover band that played during the second intermission more.

Just like last game, Milbury gave the Rangers absolutely no credit. In between the 2nd and 3rd period, he said the Islanders bad bounces lead to Ranger scoring chances and the goal we scored was a lucky one. Please try to assault another kid and get fired.

Pretty sure a crappy bounce led to the Isles goal too but hey what do I know.

Strange game (I think I've said that about ever outdoor game). Seemed like players on both teams, especially in the first period, had a hard time accelerating. The puck was bouncing all over the place. The ice looked soft and I saw multiple players trip on nothing. It got better in the 2nd period, but there were still moments of what looked like slow reactions that were really just weird random difficulties.

I loved these games and everything about them, but I'm going to be happy to see them play in regular conditions from here on out.

Klein was solid, I agree.

Doesn't mean you can just discount a statistic because...why are you discounting it again? Oh yeah, you don't have any tangible argument to discredit it, you just yell at people like a homeless person telling them "IT'S GARBAGEE111".

Here is a reason to discredit it...

Last season Bobby Sanguinetti and Wade Redden had MUCH BETTER RelCorsi than MacTruck...

And I don't mean to discredit it as much to say it should be taken as part of an overall picture...

If I look just at last years RelCorsi then I should say that the 2 guys are better Dmen than McD...reminds me of that old song...Who you gonna believe me or your lying eyes?
