I think we’ve forgotten how annoying and arrogant red wings fans are since they’ve been so trash for the past number of years (at least I kind of did).

They certainly didn’t forget 20+ years of playoff hockey, and I look forward to this rivalry when us and them are back (hopefully) to being powerhouses

Also lmaoooo @ Zadina being a healthy scratch

Going to be impossible to have sustained success with this defence and this goaltending. The Leafs game was an aberration.

Not Impossible.

Depends on how good Guhle, Xhekaj, and Kovacevic are.

When healthy, Replace Wideman with Eddy. Replace Harris with Matheson.

It can go in multiple directions and lets not fool ourselves, MSL is going to focus on reliable play in our own end which is what they did against the Leafs. There is lots of competition once we get healthy and this will bring out the best from several guys.

Aside from Wideman and Harris, our D is big, strong, and more mobile than they get credit for.

Aww that
First road game for the rookies!

Let's see if the team has an emotional letdown after the big win opening night.

Extreme volatility is a certainty with this lineup, and without matheson for the next couple months, it's going to get very ugly.

Things have to align quite specifically for this team to eek out wins. It happened in the first game, but as well as they played, they could have easily lost it too. Most of the time, things won't align the same way this year.

Detroit's 1st game of season & home opener, so I expect a loss.

Montreal played a strong team structure in win vs Leafs, so that was nice to see.

Detroit has a really strong top 6 forward group, but that D group is playing Maata & Hagg as regulars. That's bad.

Edvinsson was sent to A.

Husso is a good pickup in net.

Don't think that team is a playoff contender yet due to their D, but they shouldn't be bottom 9 anymore. In that 10-13 range, I think.

I got the Panthers in the wild card mix. Just in our just out. Doubt they slip to bottom 10. Anything is possible but they would need a really big derail for it to be a top 10 pick IMO. You never know though

Or, they just miss then win lottery. From 16th -> 6th

You can’t actually believe this. The defence is worse than last year and it was really bad last year.

Not to mention we have awful defensive forwards getting regular minutes.

It's worse - but understandably worse due to having basically 4 rookies.

Yes, exactly.

Also, the de facto #1D is out for two months now. Edmundson, who knows how he bounces back with a bad back. Even then, he’s 2nd pairing at best. So even the reinforcements are big question marks.

The defense is not worse than last year. We had two of our best guys out (Matheson and Eddy) and if your narrative was accurate, the Leafs would have easily scored 6 goals on us.

1 game yeah. But it shows what they can do. You can see the writing on the wall, they are going for big, strong, and mobile types. That's much better than last year. When Matheson and Eddy are healthy, we will have less guys like Wideman, Schueneman, Clague, Niku, Norlinder in the line-up that we had last season.

We need an angry react.
Looks like a “learning from the master” situation.

It's not worse if the youth plays well. Big mobile guys that know how to play D... Guhle, Kovacevic, and Xhekaj. Harris and Wideman are the risky ones in terms of not being as physically strong as the others.

We had lots of games from Clague, Schueneman, Niku, Wideman last year.

Savard vs Savard
Guhle vs Romanov
Eddy (24 games) vs Eddy (??? games)
Kovacevic vs Kulak
Inspired Matheson vs the Uninspired Petry
Wideman (full time) vs Wideman (depth role)
Harris vs Clague
Xhekaj vs Chiarot

Being better in what sense? They gave up 319 goals last season, maybe they give up 280 this season.

Yeah, that's almost a 40 goal swing and takes us from last to 10th last in goals against. Something like that perhaps. That's better and it will win more games.

I dislike this narrative of tank tank tank and it's impossible for us to move up the standings. This is far from a Coyotes roster. We are in that bottom third group and remains to be seen if we finish in the top half or bottom half of that group.
