Maybe it’s just me, but I’m liking what I’m seeing from Drury. Slotting him alongside Aho might yield good results.
I mean he's still just a rookie earning his keeps. But I agree, even if he doesn't get first crack at replacing TT, he should be on the short list. He seems to have the legs and drive given his short season in the AHL and yoyoing up and down between the NHL/AHL. And he's playing like it despite not scoring yet.

Refs missed a lot of dirty plays last night.
imho, the High Stick on Seabass was intentional.
That's a 5 Minute Major. This was happening all game.
Martin's Hit on Jordo is a Major. Easy call.
Turbo is out for the POs.
Surgery tomorow.

It's truly impressive just how badly the 'we like our group's strategy has backfired this year. I mean we'll probably still advance to the second round, but damn, it's like the hockey gods are actively punishing Don for his inaction

So, despite everything going wrong we'll still finish at least top 8 in the best league in the world?

We've only been a good team for a few years and some of you turn into Bruins fans. I swear. Nobody is entitled to a cup and there's no button for a GM to just push to force other teams and players to bend to their will.

That’s one way to look at it. The other way is to say with injuries and goaltending concerns they weren’t very likely to win anyway so inaction was absolutely the right call.

Meh I'm not even complaining, just making the observation. The levels to which the injury bug has hit us this year is a bit unprecedented, and its really come to a head since the deadline. Maybe its justification for the inaction, but to some extent looking back at the 'we like our group', there does seem to be some kind of karmic retribution going on right now that is going "screw you in particular" to us with these injuries

Either way, yeah we'll probably move on (though, not guaranteed),

It's crazy. We've played a lot of rabid fanbases in the playoffs but I don't think any of them collectively were as sleazy and low IQ as the Piles. Boston and NYR fans are literal saints and geniuses compared to some of these jokers.

yep, I wouldn't mind Rees rotating in for Step or Stastny if only to throw some absolute cheapshots out there.

We never win on the road anyway. Minas well send out the AHLers to run Sorokin, Barzal, and Horvat. Give the stars a game or two rest.

fine with Drury slotting up to first line. Get Jarvis off this line immediately. Move Necas up. Jarvis is basically invisible right now and is dragging Aho down. Can't have first line not produce in playoffs. Keep Noesen on second line with KK and put Jarvis or pool party on RW.

Islanders will come hard in game 3 with their forecheck and hitting. Canes need to expect this and stop with the blind clear attempts. Maintain structure and they will find gaps on the ice to exploit. Mayfield is going to try and take someone's head off.

With Turbo being out, this has to bring Poolparty into the lineup, no? He might not score, but he hits heavy, and given the way the Isles have been playing, I'd be ok unleashing him with explicit 'hit everyone in blue as hard as you can' orders the next few games. Fight fire with fire. I wish we could move Necas to the top line, but if we do that, we might make it too easy to defend against us by loading all our top end offensive players into one line. Then again, its not like the top 2 lines have been doing a dam thing anyway, so.... who knows.

Canes need to expect this and stop with the blind clear attempts. Maintain structure and they will find gaps on the ice to exploit.

Ugh, THIS. I think all 4 of NYIs goals this series have come off bad defensive breakdowns or boneheaded giveaways. If we play our game, they haven't shown an ability to match us, we just have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot.

agree with svechhammer on this. the autopsy is already written should the Canes not advance to conference finals. Borg had opportunities and vocally admitted that they were targeting scoring help at the deadline. they did not address this at all. there were rentals available (Tarasenko would look great as a Cane right now) but they continue to overvalue draft picks and prospects IMO. Jarvis is the best example of this: terribly miscast right now and is contributing nothing. He's killing Aho's game.

anyway, the team's identity and playoff success seems to be tied to the defense generating offense. so far so good.
