Hopefully we come out and play another solid and mistake limiting game with good puck management.
This game could actually tell us a lot about this team. They got close last year and clearly all season were looking forward to the playoffs to get back at it and they seem mature about it. Come out and have a similar game to game 1 and it makes the Devils that much more uncomfortable and in their own heads.

A win tonight would tell us all they're not playing around and they're poised for a serious run. You're not letting them off the mat and you're keeping your foot on their throat. Devils come out and blow the doors off of us and it's a whole other story. They start feeling confident and comfortable and it changes everything. Keep them frustrated.

if you know, you know. just took that.

I expect a loss tonight.

It's the natural progression of the back and forth in what will likely be a tight series. I mean Florida beat Boston on the road last night. This is what happens.

The Devils will come out flying trying to prove that the inexperience and tightness factor was a 1 game thing. It very well may have been.

The things that need to happen for the Rangers to come back to the Garden 2-0:

- Igor stands on his head and shuts them down himself

- The Rangers realize despite the lopsided win in Game 1, they didn't dominate the game in a lot of areas and actually play a stronger team game in all zones, showing some real killer instinct

- The Devils get too aggressive early on home ice and the Rangers capitalize on some high quality chances

- Special teams imbalance remains in the Rangers favor

Well said. Igor needs to be great again and the team needs to be better.

Because the Devils will come out better.

I also expect a loss. I'm conditioned to the Rangers never having a short series.

You know what, Mean Gene? I am just sick and tired of hearing about the Devils running off their mouths everywhere I go these days. Whether it's in the gym or when I greet my Rangermaniacs on the street. They tell me, "The Devils are saying they're gonna embarrass you, they're gonna make you pay, and you'll never come back. " Well, tonight, Mean Gene, the Devils will have to prove it on the ice at Thursday Night's Main Event at the Meadowlands. And when I wrap these 26 inch pythons around the Devils, brother, they are going to know the power of the Rangers, the power of eating your vitamins and saying your prayers. And I got all my Rangermaniacs behind me, ready to go for tonight. I know it is not going to be easy. It's going to be a fight to the end, but I know that all my Rangermaniacs believe in me. They will give me the power and the strength to beat these cocky Devils. And when I drop my leg on top of them for the pin and hear the count 1 - 2 - 3, they're gonna wish they never stepped into the path of the Rangers, brother. So Devils, what are you gonna do when Rangermania runs wild on you??!!!
This is a great post. You had me thinking of wrestling themed avatars - Trouba as Macho Man with the flying elbow off the top rope.

Been saying this for weeks. Take care of business and get this wrapped up in five. You want a serious shot at the title? Can't play 14 games over the first two rounds.

Agreed. If they bring that killer instinct they've been kinda missing for years it'll be a very telling fact.

The things the Devils need to do better are the things that require physicality. They lack that for the most part and have lacked it all year. They need to grind, they're fast, but if we play positionally sound and take away the rebounds/front of the net that speed is not enough to win a series with us. We need to avoid chasing them, and know when to engage. And we did that well in game one, so we CAN do that. They'll just be buzzing around the perimiter taking shots Igor has a great chance on. They aren't big or strong enough to win pucks in that net front territory if we are committed to it ourselves. And they need to win board battles too. Can they? Has not been a NJD forte this season. They've used the space afforded in the regular season to get to pucks before they have to battle. They probably SHOULD dress Smith for that reason in their own zone, but he has other issues. If NYR play their game, the way they did the other night, which they can actually even IMPROVE upon, there's no reason they shouldn't take this series. Maybe as few as five games.
Then there is goaltending. Are they going to consider going with Blackwood? Mistake IMO. And Vanaceck is not in Igor's class. Igor is a goalie that causes you to try to be too perfect. That means more missing the net. The Devils need to throw it at the net and then GET to the rebound. Can they with any consistency? Not if we play our game.
Hey, ANYTHING can happen in a single game, but over the rest of this 7 game series I'm confident in the NYRs. I think BOTH teams will elevate their game for this one, but NJD need to elevate it a LOT more than NYR do.
This all goes back to the fact that the NJD have NOT played a style of hockey that can normally be successful in the Playoffs, they really don't seem built for it, and they are NOT that special. We need to keep wearing them down and frustrating them, that will be key.

Agreed. I was pleasantly surprised (shocked? even) at the game plan they came with and how well they stuck to it. Very uncharacteristic of these Rangers. It's not like the Devils weren't trying to make plays..........they legit just got choked out by the Rangers who knew exactly what they were doing.

I want proof that they're for real, it doesn't need to be a win necessarily but I want to see more before I really start to have faith. Lets go.

ohhhhhhh yeeeeeaaaah

The Devils board used to have some pretty good posters back in the day. Reasonable people open to debate. Now it seems most have left the site, or perhaps changed their names past recognition.

I miss Muttley's pissed off posts the most.

I have to be honest with you guys, Riche16 hits the nail on the head here. TBL eventually found the killer instinct that champions have. We will probably see tonight if this team has it. Tonight will be very telling.

Ooooooh yeah, I’m talking about all the way to the top, yeah. The Devils are justifiably in a position they'd rather not be in. But that's too bad, cuz the cream will rise to the top, ooh yeah.
Rangermania, yeah has got more to offer than the Prudential Centre thinks that we got, yeah, and let me tell you something right now. When the cards get stacked against the New York Rangers, let me say it yeah, let me say it out loud and let me point to the the entire NHL universe. We are the cream!
