Wtf is going on with Ryan? Coming into this season I was expecting him to pot 30 in 48 games. I was looking for a huge breakout...not getting it. Still don't like what DSP is bringing. Palmieri is ****ing sick. Rakell has really nice skills, and it's going to be a tough decision whether or not to send him back to Plymouth. Bonino is solid defensively, but I think he's better suited for a 4th line C role. Would like to see Holland get a chance between Bobby and Teemu

It's Ryan. This is what he does. He's invisible until he isn't. He still might get 30.

Ryan is not playing lazy, he had a sequence in the 3rd period where he battled several times along the walls on defense and prevented Calgary from getting the puck anywhere dangerous

Yeah the second line was awful, all of them, but none of them are showing lack of effort or being lazy. All the 3 were equally bad. Ryan and Selanne have never showed great chemistry before, except for a few spurts, and they still lack it. Bonino is still not a second line center, and I'm not suprised the line is struggling.

What can you say about the 3rd line? Winnik is going to get all the attention but the other two have been just as good. It's simply amazing how simply doing the simple things and keeping it simple has helped his game, same for Saku. Love the way all three are playing. Fantastic play by all 3 tonight.

Souray and Allen were meh. Both are very slow. And god we are gonna hate Souray's contract before its over.

Sbisa still blew but not as bad.

Lydman and Beauchemin were solid. Beauchemin seems like he's favoring an injury though.

Fowler started off bad IMO but picked it up.

Getz was beast again. He and Palmieri have great chemistry. Perry was better but not himself yet.

Rakkel was good. I still don't think he should stay full season though. DSP was a little better. Man Beleskey just always seems to struggle in one area each night. He was worse than DSP tonight IMO.

Can't complain about being 2-0 though.

I think the only way Ryan and Selanne will work is if they have a center that can control the play himself and they can play off of him. Selanne's greatest asset is his play AWAY from the puck he needs someone that can get it to him. It's going to be a challenge to find a center that can play with them, I do however think skill-wise, Hollands talent fits with them. it's gonna be a work in progress

Agreed that its going to be very tough to find a center for them. It's not hard to see why Selanne and Ryan struggle to find chemistry. Selanne seems to feed more off of speed. Ryan isn't ideal for that type of play. I think you're right when you say they need a center who can carry the play. Bonino is a smart player but his physical limitations will keep him from ever being someone who can carry the play IMO. Holland is better in that aspect but I think Selanne and Ryan also need someone who is very defensive responsible, which Bonino is. Not sure how Holland is in that aspect. Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing Rakkel get a shift between the two. I'm not really saying bench Bonino but i do believe its time to see Holland and out of all the centers, Bonino is playing the worst so i wouldn't mind seeing Holland next game instead of him.

Man, Koivu has been amazing so far. Winning faceoffs, putting up points, and playing very good defense

Can't wait to get back home from work to see the game... though during lunch time I'll watch the 1st period for sure.

2-0, keep going boys!

I agree. Saku has been a beast so far. I wonder if the lighter minutes is helping him?

It could very well be the case. He's getting up there in age...What's perfect is that he's so much better than the average 3rd line center. He could easily still put up 40-45 points in an 82 game schedule.

Yeah, seems weird to punish Rakell.

Exactly, I don't get it. The 4th line has looked sharp with Rakell at center, and I'm not in favor of bumping him to the wing for Bonino. I get the rookie argument, but you play the players who have earned their minutes. Like you (Exit) said perfectly a few days ago, "Boudreau got famous as a coach for his ability to take calculated risks with younger players and get good results."

I'm starting to think the Lockout has been of great help to some guys. Getzlaf's stride hasn't been this good since the 2010 Olympics, and was taking on a laboring look after his array of ankle injuries. Lydman's shoulder looks healthy and he's been playing a terrific shutdown game. And Koivu looks refreshed. Resting seems to have helped all three during the Lockout.

Agreed about Getz. He seems to have had a few nagging injuries the past couple seasons that were given ample time to heal with the lockout. Man, does he look dominant out there.

I understand it's the third game, but I wouldn't mind getting RPG together. It'd be nice to see how effective they can be, when they aren't essentially the only ones putting up points.

Whole transition game was awful. Not enough speed or stick to stick passes. Too many safe plays caused us to give puck up. I though dsp was terrible on penalty kill and Getzalf was too soft on 2nd goal. 2nd line looks like its not working but I don't blame Bonino just no chemisty. Don't touch 1st or 3rd line but I would start rotating players on 2nd/4th.

The second line has no puck retriever when Ryan is in one of his lulls. All three of those guys have been losing battles on the boards, they can't control the puck long enough to create anything.

To the rescue
I'm thinking the shorter "training camp", as well as a kinder, gentler camp might have a lot to do with it. Carlyle was known to have boot camp type practices, that wore his charges out before the season even started. Both Teemu, and B. Ryan made reference in news clips about the energy they still have now vs. during the previous seasons. Coincidence?
