Well that was better, to a point. Contrary to a lot of our expectations, it's the offense that's clicking and the D that's struggling to find its feet. Don't hate that though, even though some of the breakdowns were pretty bad. The defense will improve. Just going to take some time I think.
Few noticeable things from this game. Definitely an intention to play with more pace. It's 2024, there are no alternatives - big team or small, skilled or gritty, play with speed or go home. Still need more, but the idea is right. Similar deal with the PP. They really upped the puck movement here. Not really connecting all the dots yet, but the chemistry should come with more practice. Also very clear that the blueliners are being encouraged to shoot more. McAvoy in particular was getting pucks to the net, also saw good drives from Zadorov and Hampus. Shots with purpose. Keep it up. Otherwise just a better compete-level all-round, barring a few lapses.
Little steps. Bruins had the schedule advantage here and really had no excuses not to get the job done. Pleasing all the same that they did so. Just still lots to work on and tidy up. Early days, but the top line is going to be fine, 4th looks really good. Middle 6 is going to be the challenge, which is no surprise. The extent to which they can get that sorted and working effectively is going to have a big impact on their ability or not to bank points consistently.
