Ya my current theory is that the Finals "spoiled" them.

They played their asses off then because there was something on the line every night with their backs against the wall in the playoffs and there was obviously the BIG PRIZE at the end of the rainbow there to reach for.

Now it's just going through the motions of a LONG grinding 82 game season. They don't have the intensity/effort/determination like they did in the playoffs and it shows.

They are going to f*** around at 70% all season long as a ~.500 team and likely won't up the intensity until they are in danger of missing the playoffs... finally picking it up late in the season with Kane back in the lineup to kick some asses and add some intensity back into the roster. Hopefully it isn't too late by then.

Its kind of annoying that we don’t hear anything from Jackson or Bowman about the team. Knoblauch doesn’t show any emotion (and I have liked him for the record).

Today I saw a quote from Trotz where he indicated he would just sell and rebuild if things don’t improve.

Between management, coaching and players it would be nice if anyone acted like they care.

This feels like a season where the team looks good on paper, for the most part (D needs upgrading and goalie can be questionable), but nothing clicks at all.

Like when teams have made a finals and then just missed out the following year
They have two 4th lines, two 3rd pairs and a backup as a starter. Definitely don't look that good on paper IMO.

Not sure how they can't get up for this game.

It's like the culture resets every year. That period was gross. They look like the HOPE era Oilers, the opposition is being gifted odd man rushes.

Bring in the next coach I guess. Shelf life is half a season.

Just watch Vegas play D. When our one or 2 guys are in their corner, all 5 Vegas players make a box and surround them. They don't get lost.

30th in goals
31st in shooting %
2nd shots on goal

32nd in PK
27th in PP

Not sure how they are .500 these are horrible numbers.
They manage to outshoot teams regularly and eventually they score a few eventually vs lesser teams to get a few wins... then shit themselves vs better teams... whether they outshoot them or not.

Case in point... they outshot the Devils 31-16 and still lost 3-0.

How many teams get beat 3-0 while doubling their opposition in shots?

Oilers that's who.

I know people say there is no way they fire another coach. But I dunno. I bet knob is on pretty thin ice at the moment. I’m not saying that’s the right call. But… tick tock

They play as a 5 man unit and do it well. The Oilers on the other hand are either too stupid, too unwilling, or both. Probably both.

Spot on, they’re the most all-around vanilla team in the league right now

I just wish these guys could play consistent good team D and a team game. I still can;t believe JG was like almost +60 in CGY that one year
