Didn't get to see this one, but glad for the win. Good on Monty for benching Pasta. He's starting to hold the team leaders accountable for sub-par performance. First Marchand, now Pasta. You wear a letter, you need to be better.

But I found this quote from McAvoy a little disturbing:

McAvoy added: “Brad (Marchand’s) big on that. He sort of has that old-school mentality about accoutablilty [sic] and players holding each other accountable. … He’s big on players holding each other accountable, coaches holding players accountable. That’s the only way to kind of breathe this winning culture, and how we’re going to have success.”

If accountability is an "old-school mentality," it concerns me about what that might say about the mentality of some of these younger players.

It's worth noting when comparing the 2 that Marchy didn't debut in the NHL until he was 22, and didn't earn a full time spot until the following season at 23. Poitras making the team at 19 means he still has plenty if time to develop the awareness and vision Marchy has.
Valid point, but will he make it to 22.

Sure there is. Why mention that he's dealing with a nagging injury and basically tell other teams what to target. Again all the numbers show that Boston was generating with Pastrnak on the ice vs SEA. For Monty to bench him because of 1 turnover would be stupid on his part. You're up 2-0 and you're going to bench your team leader in goals and points because of a turnover? That's playing with fire because if SEA comes back and wins that game you're getting yourself fired. Teams struggling to score and win games.....but let’s bench our best player because of a turnover.
Well that’s what happened and now being reported as such lol

I actually think that is fine. That mentality is a bit "old school" and long may it reign. Young players like McAvoy appreciating learning from a leader who has that approach is how those old, and ever so important, traditions survive and carry forth.

Then Monty was playing with fire just like I said in my post. If SEA comes back and wins that game then Monty is answering questions today about why he benched the teams best player because of a bad turnover.....when everyone on the team has had bad turnovers all season and not be benched for it. Its not like SEA was hemming the Bruins in their own zone with Pastrnak on the ice, in fact it was the complete opposite.

I'm a big Pastrnak fan at the end of the day, but this year he looks, I don't know what the word is? maybe skittish?

It seems like he's panicking when there's an opposing player approaching him. He's coughing the puck up if he feels there might be contact. Too many blind passes, too many extra moves at the blue line upon entry.

I think he will turn it around. He's a world class talent and is capable of going on insane goal/point streaks. I think we will be seeing a better version of him here on out.

My take is he is playing pond hockey.... instead of making a safe play, showing off a bit

You should find out the facts before celebrating! Pasta has 11 points in 13 games and maybe hurt, you guys aren't satisfied!.
No good fans!
You probably heard by now, but he was benched by Monty. He agreed with coach and takes full responsibility. They are moving on.

Every season that goes by the talent level on the roster (offensively) decreases leaving him to shoulder even more of the mental aspect. It might be related.

He's making over 11m a season, go hire a psychiatrist. Him being lazy has nothing to do with pressure stop making excuses for his dreadfull start to the season.

I'm shocked Monty benched him, lets hope he comes out slinging tomorrow night

Not sure I would call that a completely clean hit. He took advantage of a guy that was fending off another player.

More of a cheap shot and he had to answer for it. He could have just as easily stepped in his lane rather than try to kill a guy a foot smaller.

And trust me I love tough hockey

It's open to interpretation, and that's ok. Personally I didn't see it as cheap. I'd want McAvoy to do the same in that situation. Larsson does take a little advantage, but as long as you can make the check safely, which he did, then why not? He's got a zone to protect, no obligation to do it gently.

Agreed. BUT, right now this team needs glue. And if standing up and beating on a guy like Larsson helps solidify that glue, then I'm all for it.

I don't like the trend in the League that says everytime you throw a big hit you have to fight. It's bullshit. BUT, if that's the way it goes, then I see no reason for the Bruins to stand on principle. Show the smaller rookie you have his back (plus, according to yesterday's broadcast they are definitely working with Poitras on this issue) and pound away. Let some other team be the poster boys for change.

This I agree with. The trend is not the Bruins' fault and so, much as I don't like it, I also see no reason why they should stand aloof from it. In that sense good on Frederic, and as I said previously, the more this team sticks up for each other, the better.

My guess is Monty has been looking for a situation for a little while in which he can 'safely' bench Pasta, or perhaps even one of the other senior guys. The particular turnover or whatever it was in this case is just the pretext. What was more important is Monty saw a 2-goal lead against an offensively struggling and pretty tired opponent and figured here's my chance to make a point. Pasta has not been playing well, points aside, and while you can argue as to what his exact faults have been or just how badly he's played, I think it's safe to say he's been far too casual with the puck at times. And he's not alone in that, but he's a leader and, by his own admission, needs to be held accountable to a high standard.

I think if Seattle had cut the lead to 1 you'd have seen him back out there. Small gamble by Monty even so, but worth it, at least in his opinion. Ironically this was probably one of Pasta's better games of late in terms of effort and his ability to tilt the ice in the Bruins' favor and create chances, but I think the coach was sending a wider message to the team. Hopefully it will have a positive effect.

sorry..This is just a dumb take
Y ?
Have you watched him closely,?
Trying crazy passes instead of shooting, making difficult moves.

He is not making the smart play, or the safe play....too casual, just like pond hockey

And to call someone else respond dumb is really not called for
Just say you disagree and say why

Agreed. Good call.

Let's face it, Pasta has been terrible so far this season.

Anyone denying that isn't watching the games very carefully (or at all).

The big question for me is, why his game has been so bad. What's up in his life?

Perhaps his playing with an injury. He still has more goals than anyone else even though he isn't playing well.

Two things I've noticed about Pastrnak so far:
  • He's using that deceptive twist to his wrist shot that I think he developed last season almost exclusively when not going for one timers. I'm probably making this up, but I swear he did that hide-the-puck-behind-the-back/skate-then-shoot thing when he was 5-10 feet out while looking at a half empty net. The whole process seems slower and results in a shot with way less velocity. I'm almost certain he hasn't taken a plain old wrist shot or snap shot this season, and if I'm wrong, I'm counting on one hand wrong.
  • Before the last two games, he had not taken one full-on one timer. I don't know what he was trying out, but it resulted in fewer than 10 shots on net. At times, it looked like he was confused, like he was thinking about dropping the stick and giving the puck a hadouken instead. There was a game thread a week ago where I was going to post about how David hadn't broken a stick on a one timer so far this season - something he's done once or twice a game the past couple season. It was almost like he had a high stakes bet going with someone on his broken stick season total or something. Then, the last two games, he knocked that nonsense off, which naturally led to him scoring and being benched.

I'm not sure what's up with him. Could be some sort of injury but I'm not convinced. He's a good guy and I don't think he'd be deliberately letting his teammates down. But something is not right. He's always played pretty loose and carefree, but too often his play this season has crossed into being outright sloppy and careless. His head does not seem to be where it needs to be to play his best hockey, but I wouldn't want to speculate as to why.
