Can anybody remember the last Oiler game that wasn’t available on regular tv? I can’t. Probably have to go back to the days of the $8 pay-per-views and I can’t remember off the top of my head exactly when that was.
I remember Oilers PPV TV.

I still have fond memories of Alexi Semenov doing a little tv hit and saying in thick Russian accent “this is my for mother back in Russia”

Time to cut the cord old folks.
Been cable free since 2016.

Telus offers cheap bundles of streaming services with your cellphone.

But really Disney+, AppleTV, Netflix and Sportsnet+ are all i need for entertainment.

We share passwords with family for the others that we dont watch much, this loophole may close eventually, but it works right now and has for a while.

I said in the past, but I would love the Oilers to just create their own broadcast in 4K that you pay a yearly subscription, through a cable service for stability (Like hey...an "Oilers" channel).

Also, not sure how you have your theater set up, but I'm constantly surprised how many "sources" have smart apps. I just found out my Shaw box has apps including Plex (which I usually do through my Apple TV Box) and wouldn't be surprised if the Shaw Box has Amazon Prime on it as well.

I wonder if the Prime feed will be 4K? or will it be shitty 720p upscaled like what so many feeds are still doing these days

Maybe the Oilers+ thing is a trial run to see how many peeps interested? Granted, the Oilers re-signed with SNET for another 10 years, ending 2035 :madfire:

Eventually the league will move to Amazon Prime entirely. This is just a test run.

Doubt it. Amazon will be part of the picture sure, but like the NBA there's more money to be made in getting split rights, so probably you'll see Sportsnet + maybe TSN/RDS + Amazon for the next Canadian TV deal, much like the NBA one (NBC, Amazon, ESPN).

People rave about the Amazon broadcast so I guess I'll be interested to see how it is.

Winning last 2 games is huge with a tough couple games ahead. We drop those 2 without McDavid then the season would be looking pretty bleak.

Hopefully we can go at least 1-1 here against the Devils and Knights

I don’t think so. Amazon bought the Monday night rights from SN. The future I think will be a mishmash of various legacy cable, regional network and online streaming services as the NHL will have a special “night” every day of the week to maximize revenue over various outlets.

I've discovered over the past few months that Prime is the ideal vehicle to cord cutting without losing out on certain cable shows.

Basically allows you to pick cable subscriptions a la carte for ~$5/month generally. Can get TSN and SN subscriptions through it too. Does what I wish cable companies allowed you to do - pay a small price for the specific channels you want without being required to buy a bundle of channels.

I haven't watched any of the Prime broadcasts yet, but I've heard good things and am looking forward to checking it out.

I personally just see this as another obstacle for NHL fans. Not sure how you are suppose to get new viewers when you do this crap.

"As of April 2024, 75% of US shoppers have an Amazon Prime membership. This is an 8% increase from the previous year"

You probably can't say that about any other channel / service / etc. I imagine this is about growing viewership in the US (via near universal access)... and the NHL courting a new source of partnership revenue.

As a cord-cutter for over 15 years, I'm personally all-for-it. Much rather pay Prime $15/month for free shipping + music + TV plus $30 to a third-party internet provider, than pay Comcast $90/month for a TV+internet bundle.

I guess I'm completing out of the loop lol.

Exactly. Even my parents have Prime!
Pays for itself with the money you save on free shipping alone. Then there’s the slew of other free things you get with it. Unless you are someone who doesn’t buy things online like a cave man or don’t for some insane reason have the internet, it’s an no brainer imo to have in today’s world.

Half this thread will be complaining about this game being on Amazon and I am here for it.

Not looking forward to the "À la carte" future we seem to be facing where regular season games are going to be spread out over multiple providers.

As for the game, Devils are good and hopefully Draisaitl finds a way to beat them.
We'll be paying $120/month in the future to watch all Oiler games spread over amazon, netflix, disney, paramount and crave.

Winning last 2 games is huge with a tough couple games ahead. We drop those 2 without McDavid then the season would be looking pretty bleak.

Draisaitl says we go 2-0.

I love Prime for the extra perks. My gf uses the free shipping a lot but I use the other perks like free weekly games, prime video and books, plus there's other perks I never use. Easily worth the $11/month.

Not sure exactly what to make of this, but a good sign.

From what I understand, McDavid was skating a lot harder on the practice ice the other day than the "well I wouldn't really call it skating" characterization from Knoblauch.

This organization has and does screw a lot of things up, but I think they do a good job of managing the message whenever McDavid banged up in a way that gives him enough rope to recover without creating a media circus.

Stop looking at stupid schedule lol it doesn't matter who we play. It is useless looking ahead and saying this is a tough game, they are all tough and oilers can get their ass kicked by Columbus or beat vegas with or without McDavid. And nah bleek was going 2 and 9 last year and in last place and having to jump several teams for playoff spot
