Otherwise on D eventually

Edmundson - Harris
Guhle - Savard
Xhekaj - Matheson

is actually an interesting mix, and surrounds the rookies on top of distributing icetime. Pair two vets I suppose when playing “top-heavy” teams at home like Toronto, Edmonton, etc
I'd like to see Matheson swapped with Savard and then move Guhle and Matheson to the top pairing. That's if Matheson is able to return to where he was in the pre-season. Savard probably deserves better than bottom pairing the way he's been playing so far, though. Feels like a lot of interesting options available either way!

Guhle - Matheson
Edmundson - Harris
Xhekaj - Savard

Savard has been absolutely atrocious this year, with his pairing alongside Guhle getting run roughshod by their opposition. Do not allow the media hype and constant refrain from the talking heads during the game sway your perception of the players involved. Expected goals-for percentages crater when he's on the ice, even considering zone starts and level of competition.

Blocked shots are, in sum, a negative statistic; the reason that Savard is forced to block shots. By every objective measure, and the eye test that seems him putting himself out of position, being slow on the play, and being unable to clear his zone, confirms that which he has always been on our team - a bottom pairing defenseman. Ironically, Guhle, the vastly superior player, is being tasked with carrying him, and thus he's been "cut off at the knees" because he's been hobbled having to drag Savard around with him almost every minute he's on the ice.

The kid is dying out there each night.

Now Harris and Savard weren't terrible in their stretch together last year, one of the few during which the vet wasn't overmatched; they may work again.

I wrote that going by my own eye test. Guhle and the rookies looked like the junior players that they are for a few games, and still throughout the games.. Guhle has no idea when to pinch and got caught on his heels plenty so far. Good news is the things he does well are already nhl level and the potential is obvious. I love how he jumps into the rush as he passes.

As for Savard, he’s been breaking plays and rarely messes up. He’s our #3-#4 veteran normally right now and those are my expectations. He’s more mobile than I remember, and it would be totally expected their pairing’s stats to suck so far.

I’d be curious if it’s tracking upwards though; until habs draft or sign a Seider, or Guhle becomes a Chelios/Weber hybrid himself :)

Was wearing my Byron away jersey for the road trip until I got wing sauce on it and had to switch to Radulov... pulled the first home jersey I could find outta my closet tonight, Alex Galchenyuk lol now there's a throwback. I got it after his 30 goal season to be fair

Ugghhh Bartlett tonight :pout::pout:

There is the general consensus and there is you going the other way. They used to play against the best opposite lines night after night. If the Habs are still in a good position so far, it's because the performance of their d-squad . And who lead for ice time ?

That's awesome that you got a Radulov jersey. I was about to get one back in the days until Bergevin happened.
